Or, ahem, maybe not.
Well, I had a Sansamp/QSC setup a while back and it really did smoke. I like the old-school warmth of the Sunn a bit better, although that Sansamp RBI was a great preamp, especially considering what it costs.
Cabinets are so subjective, and possibly the greatest tone-modifier after your bass (and your brain and fangers, okay, okay).
I like Ampegs. Edens sound too wooly. I'd like to try some of these other cabs you guys are discussing, to be sure, but they're so hard to carry around.

Gigged the Ashdown/Henry tonight...grins ear-to-ear from all present!JayAmel said:Shamus, I currently play through the same head as yours (Ashdown MAG300R).
When you get your SVT3-Pro please I'd be glad to read how different it sounds compared to the MAG (I guess differences are numerous).
Many thanks if you can do it
Jay
Hey High1 ~ you and I play with the same guys! Van, Mike, and I do gigs every now-and-then.higher1 said:Ampeg. ...or St. Louis Music in general RULE!

Fortunately I was DI'd (post-EQ from the amp) on the loud PA : the MAG300R is a bit underpowered IMO. I guess I would not be able to gig in a club with MAG rig standalone.
Heard many things about the SVT3-PRO, and specifically persistent opinions some kind of lack of power (though great tonal capabilities).
While I'm considering a loud amp, I'd really like to know about its loudness.
Cheers

A quicker fix for you would be adding another 2x10 cab to get the full power out of your head.

Exactly! That Henry is a lot more efficient than people realize. The way it's designed (8x8 drivers/triple-front porting/deep cabinet), it delivers the goods w/o having to juice it up a bunch!MingusBASS said:It doesn't hurt that Shamy is using a nice 8x8 cab either.![]()
