He is French, not rude, and unfortunately he owes me absolutely nothing. :D

Or, ahem, maybe not.

Well, I had a Sansamp/QSC setup a while back and it really did smoke. I like the old-school warmth of the Sunn a bit better, although that Sansamp RBI was a great preamp, especially considering what it costs.

Cabinets are so subjective, and possibly the greatest tone-modifier after your bass (and your brain and fangers, okay, okay).

I like Ampegs. Edens sound too wooly. I'd like to try some of these other cabs you guys are discussing, to be sure, but they're so hard to carry around.

Jack

Ray has played through my rig. I he hated it, he didn't say. Of course I didn't have it set up to his ear but I told him to adjust it for whatever sound he wanted.

Looks like I'm the only EBS-guy. Too bad, their stuff is absolutely brilliant!

Thier stuff is PRICEY in the states, and more of a 'boutique" type status, so that's probably why there aren't as many users stateside, but they do have Marcus Miller as an endorser.

It's still pricey here in Belgium, but of course, not as expensive as in the US. And they do have much more endorsees. Too bad they're so expensive, but that's with everything that has to be shipped overseas. Musicman is also more expensive over here

So true.
The retail price of an SR5 here (standard model, solid color) is 2550 EUR (= $3,000 !), and the street price never comes under 1800 EUR or so (= $2,150).

Just find someone willing to ship overseas I guess. At least you have the upperhand on the Euro : US Dollar Conversion, which is weak at the moment.

Shamus, I currently play through the same head as yours (Ashdown MAG300R).
When you get your SVT3-Pro please I'd be glad to read how different it sounds compared to the MAG (I guess differences are numerous).

Many thanks if you can do it
Jay
Gigged the Ashdown/Henry tonight...grins ear-to-ear from all present!

I made the right choice...for me anyway.

Can't wait to pair up with the SVT3-PRO/second Henry!

Same for me last Summer, got a great tone at each gig.
Fortunately I was DI'd (post-EQ from the amp) on the loud PA : the MAG300R is a bit underpowered IMO. I guess I would not be able to gig in a club with MAG rig standalone.

Heard many things about the SVT3-PRO, and specifically persistent opinions some kind of lack of power (though great tonal capabilities).
While I'm considering a loud amp, I'd really like to know about its loudness.
Cheers

I've never owned a 3 pro but I just recently sold my 4 pro and it had good tone but it always felt like I had to crank the sucker to get it to gig volume. The 3 pro has quite a bit less power- All watts from all companies are not created equal it seems and I think Ampeg exaggerates their power a bit. On the other hand, you really don't need tons of power to be heard if you have p.a. support. It doesn't hurt that Shamy is using a nice 8x8 cab either.

JayAmel-

A quicker fix for you would be adding another 2x10 cab to get the full power out of your head.

Thanks, yep I know, but I also would like to get more tonal capabilities, and I am actually after that "Ampeg" vibe.

Very, very nice!

The only reason ofr this stuff, really, is that I like to have a nice stagesound. And this tig I can actually carry on my own: Bongo in gig bag on my back, amp in shoulder strap bag and one box in eaxh hand. No fun on the subway, though...

The Aguilar Ag500 is a nice little head and it was down to that and the Ashdown the other day when I was a/bing amps to purchase. The Ashdown just sounded good from the get go where as the Aguilar needed a little tweaking at first but both are nice. I went with the Ashdown because its has more of a tube sound going on. I will say that it would be nice to have a 13 lbs head.

Exactly! That Henry is a lot more efficient than people realize. The way it's designed (8x8 drivers/triple-front porting/deep cabinet), it delivers the goods w/o having to juice it up a bunch!

Like I had mentioned earlier, I was borrowing a Peavey SessionBass head to power the Henry, and it was only 200w @ 4ohms; it was plenty of power! The Ashdown is 307w @ 4ohms...so you can guess how that sounded.:D

The only reason I'm considering A/B'ing a second Henry backed with an SVT3-PRO is to blend the two tones together.

Yeah, I'm disturbed...

PV is an awesome dude. We all love him here at MM. Jay, you went to college with him? What was he like back in the day? Don't you think he kinda looks like an older Colin Farrell?
