Well, I tried to upload a pic of my Baggage-Handler proof " Bass Guitar-in a-case-within- a- hard cardboard-box" FAA approved transport system, but it was too large....

So yeah, the He** with baggage-handlers!

Anyway-
The food in Louisiana is pretty off the hook- Sucking crawfish et al, but the etoufee's are over the top.
So was the Crawfish omelette and Po'boy.
Philly Cheesesteaks in PA were different than Subway, for sure,
and BBQ in KC MO was INSANE!
I had some prawns in Oklahoma, of all god-forsaken places, that were the best ever.
And until you've had salmon in Seattle, WA, bbq'd on a plank.....ah man....

As for weird stories----How many years ya got?? WAY too many, I'm still thinking about them....
There were these 2 sisters, in Salt Lake City, for example, and they.....

No, better not go there..... :D

yup, if an ATA flight case and ins. is out of the question then definitely an SKB BassSafe, a Bongo5 will fit in it and so far it's been great for the past year for me.
as for Salt Lake.....I vguely remember a club called the Dead Goat or something and forgetting about the altitude thing and not feeling quite myself until we flew out , no sisters though. :D

almost forgot, not to slight my neighbours in Seattle BUT.... if ya like the Salmon there just come on up to Vancouver! Hoo-Wee! (not to mention great beer)

Gino's cheesesteaks were an unworldly experience, food such as the Greek Gods or Roman Emperors may have had after a great victory.....
A PERFECT combination; finely sliced steak, seasoned to perfection, cooked in just the right amount of grease, for just the right amount of time.....
Then SLATHERED with onions, carmelized by the grill, and all covered with a gooey, unctuous mass of melted cheese-product, and served on a toasted bun...
So good you want to eat the paper they are served in......
OH I must return to Philadelphia soon! There is nothing like that here in the urban jungle of El-Lay!!!!

Warr City, OKlahoma, population 8000- Where did they find such prawns? The size of drumsticks! Fried to a perfect crisp, you can actually hear each membrane
crackle as you bite into one; and served with perfectly sizzling steak fries;
and a crisp, fresh, green salad, with Ranch dressing no less! How can it get better than this? How???
I'll tell ya-

Salt Lake City- Club Egos- ("A Private Club"- it's a Utah thang)----
Jenna and Andrea- first names only, please-
Had just seen Luciano perform earlier that week, enamored with Reggae (an obvious rebellion against their strict Mormon upbringing...) "We, like, thought you were SO GOOD, and do you, like, have any BEERS, and know where there's a party??"
HA! Beers? .....A Party?? Well, yes Ladies, follow me! I WAS gonna practice my Locrian Modes back at the sleazy motel we're staying in, but there's always tomorrow! Tonight, we PAR-TAY!!!!!
WHOOOOOOOOOOO......
Underwears were not the same, for the record---similar, but not the same.
Different colors, and a slight variation on the lace pattern, I noticed.

And THIS my friends, is why we play our bass guitars---Good food, good music, new, good friends to post to and relate airline safety tips, and most of all sisters from Salt Lake City! Who wish to Par-tay.

Sterling, thank you for overseeing production and sales of some of the greatest
instruments on the market. I had a Sunburst Sterling, maple board- It was the BEST! The Bongo- probably the most advanced bass, sonically, available today.
Wonderful.

And I have no doubt that the farther North one goes, the mightier tasting is the salmon. It's gotta be. It just has to.

Ahh, cheesteaks from Philly. I've had 'em at that place on South Street (is it Jim's?) and also at a place called D'Allesandro's (or something phonetically similar).

I'm heading out there sometime in the next month or two to visit good friends who live in Collegeville. I'm sure they will take us somewhere to indulge the cheesesteak craving. Mmmm.

I don't know anything about any sisters.. that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :p

Jim's on South Street is one of the old stand-bys, but for my money D'Allesandros (I'm not sure how to spell it either) is better. I went to high school right up the street from there and try to hit it whenever I'm back in Philly. It's closed on Sundays though, so if you're there on a Sunday head one block up to Fiesta Steaks, which is just as good. Damn... now I'm hungry.

Before I dined in Philly, I was at a Bar, having a cool one.
I asked to no one in particular where I could get a real good cheesesteak.
Who makes the BEST?, I asked...

I've seen dissension before, but nothing like this-
A riot ensued, brother-against-brother, Father against Son- Yelling, screaming...
It was horrible. And this, in the City of Brotherly Love!

My advice would be to try several; decide for yourself.

It was similar in Louisiana, when I asked about the best Po'boy, or in
KC for the best BBQ..., or the best ribs in TX, the best Pizza in Chicago...but it was always measured debate!!

But apparently, there is SOMETHING about a Cheesesteak that brings out the
Beasts within....

Anybody getting hungry?

While I have never been to Philly, the best cheese steak (IMO) is in Venice Ca. The Great Western Steak and Hoagie Co. at the corner of Lincoln and Superba.

YES!

Great Western is superb! (That's in my home 'hood, kinda)

But there is SOMETHING, and I believe it is in the molecular structure of the grease that they use in Phila, that differentiates their cheesesteaks from any others in the world--

Ah, Pennsylvania---the yin and yang between the Amish, Pennsylvania Dutch, the Liberty Bell,.... and their crowning achievement....

The Cheesesteak.

The Cheesesteak.

After years of research on this subject, I have concluded that what differentiates Philly cheese steaks from all others is (drumroll, please)... the bread. There's a bakery called Amoroso's that supplies most of the hoagie rolls to Philly restaurants, and that's the one element that doesn't measure up (in my experience) in other cities. I've eaten so-called authentic Philly cheese steaks in Baltimore, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida, often in restaurants owned by transplanted Philadelphians. Some were good, some were crimes against nature (any place that claims to offer an authentic Philly cheese steak with mustard, lettuce and/or mayo falls into the latter category) but all fell short of the Philly standard.

I haven't examined the molecular structure of the grease, though, so LarryNJ's theory may be valid. For me, though, it's the bread.

SUBWAY???!!!
Beth, NO!!!

Surely, as an employee of a Company like EB/MM, you have a FedEx Account-
I'm CERTAIN that the powers- that- be would authorize a Priority 1 delivery of Cheesesteaks from Geno's in Philly. I bet they ship, and c'mon, how much could say 20 or 30 cheesteaks shipped in cost? A hundred buckaroos or so?
Pshaw! No problem-o. do it now, and tomorrow at lunch, there will be a bunch or happy people in SLO, licking their fingers to get the very last bit of Flavor!!!

Muggsy, I believe it is the combination of Philadelphia grease, cheese-product, secretly-spiced rib-eye AND of course the bun that makes the Philly cheesesteak worth going to war for.

Just let them TRY to take away our Philly cheesesteaks! Yeh right!
C'mon, bring it! Just bring it!!!1!

OK, it was just like a commercial -- I was whining to myself on the way to Subway, like "Subway's so far, and its all corporate and they dont always make such a great sandwich. Last time I got a sandwich there it was like a mustard sandwich, they just didn't know when to stop..." then I thought "why not support my local businesses? " so I did a screeching U-turn in the middle of the road and went to TKB Sandwiches (The Kid's Business). Got a turkey club on a croissant... I AM SO STUFFED...

Thank you for the idea though -- note to self: talk to shipping manager about overnighting Philly cheesesteaks...

...Just do what I used to do when I had a REAL job, paycheck, benefits, paid vacation......
(**sob**)

Charge it off to "Miscellaneous Expenses, Office-Related"
You may never get caught!

BTW, I hold the record for exceeding the travel food per-diem ($40.00) from a previous Employer- I spent $128 on a lunch, well, dinner actually, in the former Anastazi SouthWestern Cuisine in Las Vegas. Boy, was it good. No cheesesteak, but good.

Things like this are why I am forced to try and earn a living as a Bassist.
Go figure.
