Hello, my friends...

Well, I am about to embark on another modding adventure.

But, first the backstory: In light of the fact that it is early December and I have not even started christmas shopping, I decided to have my new ebmm shipped directly to my luthier's shop. I assure you that if a guitar arrives at my home at this time of year, Wendy and I will be having that old discussion where she tells me that I have the mentality of a 17 year old boy. I'm 43, so that is supposed to be an insult.

So, since it'll be at the shop, I took the liberty of ordering a few parts for her. In true BP torturous fashion, here is the first item:

Time for me to go home from work, so check back for more teasers...

- Bryan

Damn B, I didn't know this was part of your "extensive" modding plan. From the ones you've shared, I'm really excited to hear about the finished product. Wendy…oh if she only knew the FULL worth of Tolliewood she would freak, lol.

So, my new BFR Albert Lee in Pinkburst arrived at my luthier's shop today. All I can say, after first thanking my good friend Keith Sweat, is that the color is waaaaaay better than any pictures of Pinkburst that I have ever seen. It is such a soft transition from pale pink to a deeper red. Keith, you were correct to say that pics were not able to capture the true color.

Hello Guys,

Thank you everyone for following my thread. You will be amazed at this transformation, but some of you may really disapprove:

Yes, that's a Sustaniac for the neck position, I'm keeping the middle single coil, but adding a DiMarzio Gravity Storm in the bridge position.

...oh, and I forgot to mention that the Gravity Storm is pink. This guitar's electronics are inspired by Steve Vai, and will allow me to play his music (albeit poorly), but at least while using a nice tool.

Sustaniacs can be controlled a number of ways, but I will reveal the method I've chosen on or about December 20th. Jim from Noll Guitars in Cranston, Rhode Island is on vacation next week, hence the delay. It will be well worth the wait. Jim did the work on Oinky for me. He is amazing.

Question: will there be a kitchen sink involved at some point, and if not, can we see a picture of Buttercup (aka, miss shorty legs) as a consolation?

Damn, that's a beautiful guitar.

Wow Bryan, I love your bold ideas!! Oh and I know what you mean about the delicate balance of domestic understanding. This is a time of peace and goodwill to all men, UNLESS you buy yet ANOTHER guitar!!

Love the sustainiac btw, great addition.

Mario, you know I like to post my pet pics...here's Molly, our seven month old pitbull. A wonderful breed that gets alot of bad press.

Bryan, that's an amazing idea and what a stunning guitar! Dude, I LOVE your "do something bold with my guitar" threads!

Thank you very much. I asked Jim to take pictures of this operation, too. He will not need to drill the body for the controls, but he will need to route a channel for the Sustainiac's mother board. Jim will avoid cutting into the mahogany tone block.

As to doing something bold with my guitar, I am taking a bit of a risk. I've never used a Sustainiac. But, I have had harmonic feedback occur naturally before and I really enjoyed it. I remember the first time it ever happened to me: playing through my '82 Marshall JCM 800, it just started building until I could feel it in my torso. I remember that I couldn't stop smiling and I just milked that note forever.

Bryan, that thing is going to be a monster!

Hi Mat, I hope Jenn and the baby are well. Yes, this will be a monster alright!

A Bigsby this time?!

No Bigsby, but I have an admission to make about tremolos:

I was a die hard Floyd Rose fellow until I tried one of ebmm's vintage tremolos. No, I was a complete Floyd Rose snob and I would turn my nose up at any ebmm with a vintage tremolo. Until my Luke III arrived with the vintage tremolo and changed my mind forever. So, call this a public service announcement, if you will, and I urge the others who feel as I did to try a vintage tremolo. The locking tuners are all you need to stay in perfect tune, even after some very aggressive use of the bar. Now, the Floyd looks and feels like a big clunky, awkward machine to me, by comparison.

Yay! I always told myself I would buy Keith's BFR Al if he sold it. That said, I'm so glad you snagged that Al BFR before I did. I was ready to pull the trigger, came back to the site and it was gone.

RE: Floyd Rose: I've played an Albert Lee with a Floyd on it, and it's actually quite nice :) Floyds just have a different tone than the vintage trem. Depends on the sound you are after.
