Another neck question

I did search the forum and couldn't find an answer. After searching other forums I did find out the difference between quarter and flat.
 
Not wanting to sound facetious, but who cares?

Some folks here want to know an awful lot about things that don't matter.#

I don't think EB specifically selects quartersawn wood for their necks. My 1989 and 94 'Rays are flatsawn (likewise with my 79 Pre-EB). But I suppose you could end up with a quartersawn by luck of the draw.

The way to tell is by holding your instrument in the play position and look at the woodgrain in the neck. With flatsawn, the grain runs parallel to the fretboard. With quartersawn, the grain will be at an angle to the fret board.

Maybe I'm the loner here... and you're right it doesn't matter which my MM's are - but what is the difference?
 
I guess you guys are right, as long as the neck is good it dosen't matter. My Sterling has the best neck I have ever played.
 
uh.... did i miss something? .... or did people start flappin' their yappers because someone was just curious and asked a fairly harmless question??

I don't really care which process MM uses - but I would like to know the differences. You know, knowledge is power. That type of thing.

Really dosen't make new members feel welcome, does it? I assumed this forum was all kinds of questions about EBMM basses, including ones of a technical nature. As I said, my neck is great no matter how it is cut, I just wanted to know. Don't most new members start with questions and later as they learn they can then answer them? Or should this forum be only for post about who wants or has a Bongo.
 
Im with you Pete. Were gonna run off all the newbies if we react like that. There have been some stupid questions asked by newbs, but this one was legit.

You may not care, but SterlingFan does, and we should at least try to help him.

Come on guys, how many of you would still be around if you had been bashed before you got to 10 posts.

Just ignore the asshats. You asked a valid question that doesn't come up much.

Like I've been saying, I'm curious what the difference is myself.

Just a reminder, though, good people of the EBMM forum - the things that seem obvious to you may not be so obvious to someone who has had their bass a few days or, even more unfortunate, hasn't been around here for years.

I'm too old to be telling you youngsters to not act old, eh?

I thought that was an interesting post, which is why I opened this thread. I'm shocked at some of those first answers. I hope they didn't run you off. Thanks to those for the throughtful answers.
