Yes, I'm also a big fan of Mike. The Flying Colors shows in Paris were fabulous.
I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but I didn't really get into Steve until Flying Colors...specifically Second Nature. Now I'm going back and obsessing over every SMB album. Wow! So glad FC opened that door for me, which also ultimately led to me getting my Neptune Morse.

You should probably just leave it. Anyone who would even recognize that logo would probably already recognize the guitar itself as JP's signature model.

they will before that for sure know its a petrucci signature even before they see that inlay, if anyone recognizes anyway. the inlay is the least of it all, the majesty is so specific guitar with such an unique shape, the little inlay is only a small thing screaming petrucci in it.

personally i think you shouldn´t take out the inlay, its a super expensive neck tru guitar which if you take the inlay, you will hurt its wood, and wont ever put it back as it was, just because of a small simple cosmetic. besides if you for any reason in the future decide to sell it, you´ll lose a lot of money.

i would suggest to put an inlay sticker over it, that way you get rid of the problem without hurting the guitar, and in a lot cheaper way. it has to be a big sticker though, as the inlay is also big and it needs to cover it all.

To be perfectly blunt, I can't think of a single luthier that would take that job on. There would be absolutely no way to do it without it "looking wrong". Ergo, the way to do it "proper" would be to remove and replace the fretboard. Since this is a painted, neckthrough guitar, you're looking at a relatively huge sum of money to remove an inlay.

Another option, and what I would do in your shoes personally... remove the inlay material and fill it with black epoxy. It would make the inlay significantly less noticeable, and won't require drastic alterations of the fretboard. Would be quite simple to do actually, shouldn't hurt the value an appreciable amount, and your guitar wont be out of commission for weeks.

Samoht - took you a while, but welcome to the SMOC (Steve Morse Owners Club) - everyone sees the light eventually! :)

This just sounds like an excellent option to me - preserves the integrity of the current fretboard material, and hopefully alleviates your issue enough.

Thumbs up for the well-thought-out suggestion!

Did that to my old ibanez JEM. HATE the stupid vine inlay hahaha. No pics sadly, that thing has been long gone, sold it for more than I purchased it for as well. Worked out pretty well too, didn't take long to do, and I just used a razor blade and some fine sandpapers to get it leveled.

Since the fingerboard is ebony (which I work with on a daily basis..) It should be very easy for a competent luthier to match and polish another piece of ebony. There are techniques that violin makers use when working on frogs (the ebony on the bow) and fingerboards, that make any repair work on ebony disappear.

Is that a job you would undertake for him?

I've deleted a post here. A reminder to everyone, especially to new members who may not have read the forum rules and required decorum, if you can't say something positive, you're better off saying nothing at all. Making fun of forum members is not acceptable here.

Let me know if you find a good solution. I know it sounds silly, but that's the one atheistic thing on the majesty I haven't been able to get over. Oh how I wish standard dots or no inlays were an option on the majesty!
how is that logo "atheistic"?...my research doesn't show any evidence of that logo related to atheism at all (not that I'd care if it was).

this is a great shape up thread for the forum....Lets really look at titles and subject and then respond if you have any great info that addresses the topic....here is someone who very respectfully asked if anyone had any advice or experience in removing the DT logo....25 posts were either telling him he is wrong, talking about portnoy, talking about morse, insulting him (deleted) mods getting it back on track and then picking on spelling.

Lets stay on point and be helpful if you have a solution. If you want to talk about something that is mm related start a new thread.
