Well, at my GC, they are still selling EBMM stuff for way higher than any other GC's I've heard about recently. The person who helped me was nice, and tried to give me a deal, but in the end I couldn't justify paying those prices for their EBMM basses when I've heard tons of stories in the past month about people getting great deals on them at every other GC in the nation.

Ask them to show you their CDY list, to see if the bass you're interested in is there (if it's marked for clearance). The clearance prices do differ for each store, based on various factors, but atleast if you see a given store's CDY list prices, you know you're getting the best clearance price you can get at that particular store. In some cases, the prices on that list are not input into the computer system, so if a sales person quotes you a price from the computer, he/she may not be aware that there's an even lower price on the CDY, for instruments on clearance.

The post-NAMM clearance sales may actually be over - I'm not sure. But I'm thinking the president's day sale is part of that, in which case a CDY list should be available for review. But not if you don't ask.

What's CDY ?

Clearance/Discontinued/??? Year-end, maybe? Not sure.

Anyway, another forumite clued me into the CDY list. When I mentioned it to the GC guys, they didn't hesitate - knew exactly what I was talking about & I got the rock bottom clearance price shown on that list for this bass, which was below cost in this case. But keep in mind that only select instruments are on that list.

Wait a little bit & then sell it at a profit, if nothing else. :)

i went to the SF GC this morning. they have quite an inventory of MM guitars and basses. they're all marked down from last week's price but there were no MM items at those crazy, almost 1/2 off, prices i've read about.

good deals... but no steals

I hit up 4 GC's today since they are grouped so close in Northern Jersey. (I know, I don't have a life)

I got a better price when I bought my Stingray new without a big sale going on than the "lowerst" they would go on anything I saw - and that was dealing with a salesperson I know well. Maybe I just encountered a generous salesman when I bought the 'Ray, but I was a little disappointed.

I feel your pain. There are three GC's in the metro Atlanta area and each one does business differently. I did (FINALLY!) get the right case for my 30th Anniversary Edition for no extra cost after much complaining but still got no good reason why I paid $350 more than so many others. Maybe because mine was new, not a return. Maybe not.

That said, there was a 30th AV Stingray at the Marietta, GA Guitar Center (my favorite one now) for just under $850 sans case. It had a mild nick on the side of the neck near the 12th fret. There were two four-string Bongos and two five-stringers going each going for between $700-800. I liked the stealth Bongo but cannot justify the eight basses I already have. They were there at 8:00pm, so I think they did not sell. They might continue the bargain to move them tomorrow. Worth a shot.

The 30th AV that donated its case to my cause is probably still at the Atlanta GC, too. Don't know what the asking price is, though.

Was the tort guard on the Rolls in the store, or was that your swap?

I was surprised, but it came on the bass. I thought they came with white ice originally, so maybe it got swapped around at the store. I think the rolls looks better with tort (or black) than the white ice.

What GCs did you go to Rex?
Sherman Oaks, Hollywood and Pasadena
