Just tickled to have picked up this 2003 MusicMan SUB4 from the local CL recently. Needed some TLC, decent setup and a little soldering to the input jack so I brought it back to life. Had a weekend gig with it and this bass just flat-out rocks. Solid as a battleship too. Sign me up for the Sub Club!

Hi there !

It's my first post on this forum which I discovered a few hours ago.
So nice to see that we can find people who appreciate to play on SUB basses.

I personnaly bought a used SUB several months ago. Back in the years I was the oroud owner of a beautiful Stingray 5 in transluscent red with a mapple neck. A beautiful bass and definitely a keeper. But for some reasons I had to sell it.

I promised myself I would buy another one when I could. But the price here in France is sooooo expensive and I couldn't afford it. May you imagine my joy when I've found this SUB 5 for a very good price ?

This bass is gorgeous and is a player (it became my main bass, nevertheless I looooove my Lakland DJ5 which was my main bass for years !).

But I have to say that I have a little issue with this bass. It came with no pickguard ! I've found that it looks cool at the first time, but I definitely prefer with a pickguard.
That being said, I tried to find a new one but in vain, in France.
I tried with pickguard heaven, but the price is very expensive (almost 100 $ including shipping !).

So I was wondering if anyone here could be so nice to san the shape of the pickguard of his SUB 5 and send me it by mail ?

In that way, a friend of mine could be able to make a new pg for me.

I know I ask a lot, and it's my first post, but it's important for me and it's the last way I've found to get it done.

So ? Anyone ? :)

Thanks by advance guys !

Oh ! I forgot to post this :

Former SUB 4 passive and current SUB 5 owner here! I love my SUB, it sounds and plays great and I'm not afraid to take it to the rougher clubs / bars.

Pickguards for the SUB 4 are the same as standard Stingray 4 guards, but the SUB 5 guards are the same as the Stingray 5 Classic. These are available from EBMM and on eBay from time to time as well.

SUB 5 in Black with a Pickguardian Black Abalone PG (very high regards as to that transaction!) & SUB Sterling in "Textured Cinnamon" (only 1 of 6 sprayed in the "Poor Man's Mystic Dream" as reported by EBMM) in my collection, and my reasons for loving them are because I'm not primarily an EBMM player but as a semi-professional Session/Live Gig Bassist I realize the importance of having their sounds at my disposal, and for a minimal outlay (I got mine before the online cost of Used seemed to jump out of the water) I've got 90-95% of a StingRay & Sterling, using many of the same electronics and hardware built right next to them in SLO, USA. And I can certainly live with a Poplar body, non-carved body, and a spray-on finish & neck for the overall Quality and 'steal' of a price...

Finally took my SUB 5 out to a gig. I still struggle with the extra string.

Not the best pic, but the only one where I had this bass in hand. My 30th is the "go to" bass every time.
