Anyone else ditch their strap locks and go back to their regular strap buttons?

hee hee - yeah. Had a bas player once who never kept his bass in a case - literally threw it in the back of the van - man that had some wear!!

Maybe he was planning on selling it for a grand more than he payed.
For the record, I've only seen one EBMM guitar with a worn finish. That was when someone here posted a pic of a worn Morse.

I stick straplocks on everything guitar shaped in my house. After watching the guy who bought my old LP drop his own one that was secured to it's strap by normal small buttons with rubber beer bottle washers. He was very lucky not to smash the headstock off. I left the strap lock buttons on mine for him as a gift/insurance policy! I mean, I might want to buy it back one day!

Don't use them. Been playing for twenty years (play in a band a lot, lots of studio work, etc.) and had a guitar drop once because I was being a complete idiot. The guitar was okay, luckily. I just make sure the leather on the strap is not getting worn or lose and I of course make sure the screw is never coming loose. And I damn well make sure I put the strap on really good.

I'm also dedicated to the DiMarzio Clip-locks. I have one on each guitar.

Hey man, I'd try them if I could ever find a store that carries the cotton version as I don't like the seatbelt feel of nylon.

No strap locks for me

Whew! I was starting to feel outnumbered by the lockers.
Two big factors that make me confident about going lockless are that I feel the strap buttons are adequately sized and that the strap itself has a sturdy connection. If the hole area of the strap feels flimsy, there's no way that I'd trust it.

I have a set of Schallers lying around but I'm not sure I want to put them on my Silo Special. The stock buttons seem wider and more secure than on most non-EBMM guitars and I'm very comfortable with them. But yes, it's funny how memory fades and my old strat has more than a few substantial dings & dents from falling off straps; not that I mind the dings and dents, it's the embarrassment and inconvenience when it happens on stage in the middle of a tune that should have me putting those Schallers on today...

...not sure I will though. I keep meaning to order EB superlocks but ya know how these things go. Long finger, tight wallet, etc. etc.. But keep bugging me about it, guys and gals, keep buggin me!

Think of it as a "one off insurance policy".
Perish the thought that it will happen, but if it did, you'd be kicking yourself that you didn't buy any

Just been talking on the phone to my "Guitar building/repair buddy".
He says to leave them off - 'cos it keeps him busy doing the repairs!! - at least one a month he says!!

I use schaller strap locks.....If necessary..., I file the head of the original screws a little.., but I must have them....., too many drops over the years. Luckily I have caught them every time............I need them because I usually have to play the keyboard too with my guitar hanging around my neck...I never want my Balls to drop!!!!

Here's a great alternative....Sure-Lock guitar straps. It's a locking system that fits right over your existing strap button (or peg). No tools required.
In fact....I have one on my MM 25th Anniversary !!! check 'em out

I used this system during several years. It's not perfect (sometimes the system can open itself thus beware ...) and it can wear the finish of your guitar (not a problem for me but if you are a maniac !)

I have always used Schaller strap locks on every guitar I have ever had. I simply would not trust a reg-ular guitar strap!

I use either Schaller strap locks or Dimarzio clip lock straps on everything. All of my EBMM's get Schaller's. If the screw head is too big I do as said earlier and grind the head down until I get get it through the button.

I bought a PW strap when I got my BCB Albert, and I took it back - it was useless - the strap actually came off several times!!

I don't use strap locks on my Music Man (they change the tone ) but I use the DiMarzio ClipLocks.
This unknown guitarist uses them and seems happy with them :
