Is the 4th position quack of the SSS that much different than on the SSH coil tap?

good question :)

I don't know cause the my silo was purchased as a Strat replacement my HSS config is Strat with a EMG SL20 kit so that is to say on that guitar middle + Humbucker that is really not a typical quack strat sound

I guess Rob will tell once he will get his Silo DD :p

I've had quite a few Strat type guitars, all SSS, and with various p'ups in each. I can't tell a difference in 4th position on my silo SSH coil tap. Each guitar and pickup sounds different, of course, and the stock Sil Sp doesn't have the same vintage bell-like tone of some other guitars I've owned, but I chalk that up to the p'ups, not necessarily the split bucker. The Sil pickups sound slightly overwound, and so fuller. They also break up nicer that the vintage p'ups do. Some day I still may try Fralin's in one of them, in neck/mid position, just for something different.

When I got my Silo, I AB'd it with my Strat. To my ears, the 4th the position on my SSH Silo sounds virtually indistinguishable from the 4th position on the SSS Strat. Just as sweet, but with the added advantage of the humbucker when I need it.

I'll try, Foggy. It may be my only chance before the damn band implodes due to the usual personality/musical differences.

:(

Don't worry about it! We just want to drool over your Silo is all. ;)

I hope things work out with the band. If not, there's always more bands.

maybe I will get a SSS silo sp and put a dimarzio chopper at the bridge.
I am loving that pup right now. it can sound like a single coil, mini hum or full hum.

I can't tell the difference either.

I just played about an hour on my redburst, and I'm still amazed how many tones I can squeeze out of these guitars, without doo-dads and outboard gear, not even a single amp adjustment. I often finish up a mindless jam on the bucker, as the theme crescendos. Just an awesome and accommodating instrument.
