I'm sure there are improvements on many levels when it comes down to the technical aspects, but again it is nostalgia in my opinion. It's just the society we live in nowadays! If I had the Ultra I would be perfectly content with it and would probably take me YEARS to even start unlocking the possibilities it offers. In general our society is obsessed with materialistic nonsense that is really again about nostalgia and having the latest "cool" gaget...for instance new iPads coming out every month and new iPhones in different colors. Waste of resources and this is what I call decadence. Rant over. Now I'm going to hunt down an Ultra or standard for a nice price :D.

Well, the thing is that AXE II comes with, for example, a USB port which allows you to record directly into the computer via USB and you won't have to buy an external soundcard. This way you'll save money on that. Also, AXE II has headphone jack so you can play with headphones and don't even turn on the computer and run it via that. All in all, I think AXE II's upgrades are definitely worth it, at least for me!

But I agree. The Ultra is still an awesome piece of hardware :)

I am an Axe-Fx standard owner (for over 2 years) , and I am intrigued by all the hype for the new unit. I never Gassed for an Ultra, as its additional features are useless to me, but the new unit supposedly has 'better' sounds (if that's possible) so we'll have to wait & see on that one. If it IS that much better I might spring for one in a year or so, but I will have to sell my Standard, and there is also the temptation of the upcoming LUKE III....Too many nice toys to buy, not enough dough....aww man...

I'm thrilled because I just picked up a like new Ultra for the price of a new Standard! I figured the demand for the II will be so high that I wouldn't be able to get one for a year anyways. The Ultra will satisfy any needs I have with ease, if the hype around the II is accurate I'll buy one a year down the road or so when demand cools off. Or, I'll go straight to a III !
