Finally had a chance to wire up my Axis SS Semi-hollow with 25th Anniversary/Reflex parallel / series wiring the other day. This rewiring project is not for the faint at heart, but if you've done soldering before, it shouldn't be an issue if you take your time. You will have to desolder just about every lug on the 5 way super switch, then you'll need to figure out how to convert the old style switch to the new one as EBMM switched to a newer (easier to figure out) 5 way super switch.

To do this mod without drilling another hole for the parallel / series switch, I used a Fender S1 500K pot/switch.The S1 is a 4PDT switch and was perfect for this application.

If you want to do this mod, please note that you will need to get the solid shaft, long version of the 500K S1 switch. Don't make the mistake that I did and get the shorter split shaft version, it will not work with the Axis Super Sport as the shaft is not long enough and is made for strat pickgards.

The solid shaft version will only take a barrel type knob, which meant that I had to get the chrome barrel knob and switch assembly to go with it and jettison the vintage look of the dome hat cream "strat" type knobs. Not a problem for me as I like the look of the barrel knobs.

I really love this mod and really like the sounds I get with the neck pickup or bridge pickup in parallel. I think it's very close to the single coil split humbucker sound but without the hum of a single coil. The mod is makes the Axis SS a super useful guitar.

Originally I was contemplating changing the 5 way switch to a 3 way tele style and adding two push/push dpdt pots, 1 for split coil and 1 for series parallel, but the 25th Anniversary/Reflex switching is much more elegant and I think gets more sounds?

Big shout out to A.J. for putting up with me constantly emailing him for wiring diagrams and questions! Thank you kind sir! :D

Part numbers for this mod that you can get anywhere they sell genuine "F" parts
S1 500K Switch Pot, solid shaft, long version: 0061263000
S1 Tele/P Bass Barrel type knob with cap: 0059272049

Here's a diagram to help understand the S1

and here's a diagram noting the conversion from the 25th Anniversary to the S1. I'm not sure I can post the entire wiring diagram, so please contact customer service for the original wiring of the 25th Anniversary.

It looks great!

How does the wiring work now?

5 position switch: 5 = neck, 1 = bridge

Neck pickup:
North coil: 4
South coil: 3

Bridge pickup:
North coil: 2
South coil 1

+ = series
& = parallel

When the switch button is not pressed (up position) you get the following:

Pos 5 = 4+3
Pos 4 = 3+2 (inner coils)
Pos 3 = 4+3 & 2+1
Pos 2 = 4+1 (outer coils)
Pos 1 = 2+1

When the switch button is pressed (down position) you get the following:
Pos 5 = 4&3
Pos 4 = 3&2
Pos 3 = 4&3 & 2&1
Pos 2 = 4&1
Pos 1 = 2&1

You can also see a diagram here:

Hi, do you think it will work and be nice on the Luke 3 ? Mine is the first that has the boos on the tone pot.

I have the very same Semi Hollow, but this with my solid Axis SS both have piezzo, could this be accomplished with a piezzo guitar do you know ?

Great post! I contacted Ernie Ball customer service and they sent me a copy of the Reflex wiring diagram. Unfortunately, the color codes don’t match your diagram. Is there any way you could shoot me a copy of your diagram?

The colors in the diagram are only there to make it easier to differentiate the various wires and connections. All the connections are labeled so all you need to do is make sure the wires from the switch and pickups go to those terminals.

Thanks again! I totally understand your use of color was to differentiate the various wires. I was unclear in my original question, and I apologize. I meant that the signal labels on the Reflex diagram I received are absent or don’t match your signal labels. I thought this might be because Music Man switched from a standard 4PDT switch to a PCB switch. But this is incorrect. I looked for some photos online and found that they seem to have always used a PCB series/parallel switch.

All of this would be much easier if I could physically inspect the signal runs and shoot their switch with a meter. Then I’d easily be able to determine signal routing/switching. For this, I’ll have to wait a couple months for my Reflex to arrive.

In the meantime, would you be able to post the second part of your diagram with the super switch wiring? That is really the piece of info I’m missing. If I could see which terminals on the 5-way switch your signals labelled “to switch” went to, I could knock out this mod. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Ah! I don't have it in front of me, but I believe the wiro-gram you are looking for isn't for the Reflex, but for the 25th Anniversary. Contact CS and see if they will send it to you.

Also, if you are getting a Reflex, you won't need any of this as it's wired that way to start unless someone modded it?

For the orange and grey wires that goes to switch, it would be one of the end terminals on the super switch for each wire. So two terminals, one orange, one grey.

Music Man Reflex Style Two Humbucker Wiring

Reflex Wiring - DFM Edit - 2 Humbucker Series Parallel.jpg Alright, after much thought and tracing of the Reflex diagram I received from Music Man and kimonostereo’s post showing the 4PDT switch, I’ve finished a complete diagram detailing the Reflex style coil selection for a two humbucker guitar. There are some assumptions with this mod: 1. You are competent with a soldering iron, 2. This diagram is a guide and reference tool that I’ve used to make this mod, I can’t guarantee your results, so mod at your own risk, 3. You must have pickups coils magnetically opposite for the 5-way selections to be hum canceling (you may have to flip your magnet in one pickup, but there are plenty of instructions on how to perform this out on the web). Here is the diagram mapped out for Dimarzio pickups. If you are using different pickups, please double check your wire color codes for your individual coils. Even if you are using Dimarzio pickups, I would still double check them anyway. Better safe than sorry.
