Are there any "walkman" sized practice amps out there that could be had for just a few$$$? I'm gonna need to tone it down here in a couple weeks, w/ baby and all!

I remember years ago seeing these little Marshal "half stacks" that were about 5 inches tall and ran off a 9-voly batt.

Is there anything like that still available?

Thanks

I think yes, it's a Marshall MS-2 or sth, as a alternative I would suggest Roland Cube 15

The Roland Micro cube is a great little amp with amp models, effects and a headphone jack, which can also run on AA batteries. Overall size is about 7"x10" and it has some great sounds in it. retails about $125. I also think Vox just came out with something similar.

The Smokey amps are great little things the size of a pack of smokes (they can also drive a half stack if you wanted them too) and go for abot $30, I know Glenn swears by his and put the link in a recent thread

good luck

Early Congrats Brent! I hope all goes well.

I agree with the Microcube. I also think VOX has recently come out with a similar mini-amp.

Good move on getting those EVHs pre-baby!
You happen to get a baby blue one and a pink EVH! Are those for the baby's room!? :p ;)

Hey Brent, I sold the 5150 Combo and went with a Soldano Atomic 16 Combo 112. Very nice at low volume if you want a tube amp. Do you know if it is a boy or a girl? ;)

Brent, as Mike said, I'd check out the Smokey amps, they are small, but have a headphone jack on them as well. I'd also take a look at the Korg Pandora's, they have a great rep, but they are headphone only. Though they have a tons of stored tones.

Congrats, kids are awsome!!!!

Congrats my eldest is 21 and the youngest 15 - and they're still a worry !!
I used to have a boss playbus which was amazing as a headphone amp but I sold it along with a load of other stuff to fund the purchase of my AL.
I have used a Tascam CDGT 1 but thay come in at $120 but are great for slowing things down whilst retaining the pitch.
I guess it will have to be phones cos even a small amp will wake the babe up.
Although some will sleep thro anything HA!!

Another vote for the Roland Microcube...amazing what they pack into such a small & cheap unit. I got mine for about $65 off ebay and keep it in the inlaws basement for when we visit and I need some time out!!! :D :D

Congrats Brent! hehehe... I think it's funny that you think you'll find time to play in the first 3 or 4 months :) Well, it's your first; who am I to point out that you probably won't be able to find time to sleep for the first ten weeks... But anyway, I'll tell you what I use for "really quiet" practice - a Line 6 Guitar Port. Plugged through my PC, I can use the volume on my PC speakers to control the loudness side of things, and still get all kinds of wild noises out of the guitars. Jacking my Boss GT-6 through a set of PC speakers is a pretty good way to go too. Either sounds way better than those cheesy little plastic battery-operated amps (which universally sound like crap, ime), and you can find Guitar Ports used for $50 or $60 if you look around... Good luck whatever you decide...

Brent good luck with the Smokey they are pretty cool.

I have 2 daughters and they are awesome. My oldest is 7, she's too much, tall, lean with long finger and blonde. I'm gonna have to sell an EBMM or 2 in a few years to afford the shotguns to scare away the boys. My youngest is 4, she's a handfu, but she's got the musical talent. I video taped her singing the other night, it was a trip. Once she was sitting our bed waiting for her turn in the shower. I said "Dottie can I video tape you singing a song, she said sure. These are how the lyrics went "I love my mom, she's the best. I love Sasha, because she's my big sister. Then I screamed at my dad!" I had everything I could do to not laugh out loud.

You'll have a blast. :D

I f you want REAL quiet, here's what you do:
Ship your EVH's off to me (I'll cover shipping, of course) and then your place will be church-mouse quiet.
Then when your kid's older (say, college or collecting pension) I'll ship them back to you! Good?......:D

:( ....OK, then try this instead http://www.pocketrockit.com/main.htm

Don't worry about that! She's going to want to do whatever Daddy does.
That also means playing your guitars as well.
My daughter is now 11 years old and has 2 guitars and a heavy appetite for rock music. She wants access to all my VH CDs, but have to limit her to the songs/CDs that are appropriate for her age.
My 7 years son has a drum set and likes a lot of different types of music, including Ozzy's mellower stuff.
My one year old son has a nack for the drums, wants to always play my acoustic guitar but has no musical preference beyond Johnny Cash and Disney tunes!
Whatever goes on in your household, they will adapt to.
Enjoy it to the fullest!!
Here's a piece of advice: "Don't listen to people's advice!!!" :p
Do what you feel is comfortable to you. You can't go wrong!!!
