Chords, straps, strings, another bass, tubes ect. I have an extra cab on the band trailer and am thinking of putting together a preamp.power amp rig to sit on the band trailer too.

Many cables;
Spare Speaker cables (Speak-on & 1/4 inch);
9 volts;
X-tension Cords;
Power Strips;
Tools;
Strings (although I haven't broken one since high school)
I sometimes bring a spare bass, sometimes not. I have never had to use one, and I have no worries that my Sterling will ever let me down!

stingray bass and either the Aria SB1000 or the Hohner B2A headless as a backup bass.
Spare strings, plecs, a couple of spare leads, (just in case the guitar player forgets his! - not unknown!)
Hand towel, polisher cloth to wipe down the bass
I don't bother with spare effects pedals / pedal tuner etc. - if something goes wrong with the pedalboard (not been a problem so far - fingers crossed!) - I'd just plug straight into the amp.
Set of screwdrivers, allen keys, a leatherman for pliers / wire stripper and a couple of spare fuses.

I have to tell this one.
In 1995 we had a show in Bordeaux, France.
At that time I was using a German headless bass, graphite neck. No spares of any kind with me. Never had problems before.
At 3/4 of the show, tipical live rock ending, I hit the last note of the song: PLUNCK!
...the A string broke in two!
I had no spare strings with me!
No spare bass guitar!
I told the keyboarder to fill at least 6-7 minutes to keep the audience warm.
I ran to the backstage.
What now?
I moved the D string to the A position
I moved the G string to the D position
...luckily on headless basses with double ball-end strings you can do that very fast.
I did this to have at least a group of 3 stings together... E A D
Back on stage.
The whole band was laughing.
The singer announced "Ladies and gentleman, Andy on 3-string bass guitar!"

PS: for the second encore the band asked me to decide what song to play. I choose a random one.
...one with a very hi bass solo at the end that I couldn't complete...

I used to bring a spare bass, strings, winder,pliers,wire cutters,batteries,cables and water on stage with me.Now it's down to spare strings and water...
-I can change a bass string in 1minute flat without tools so, I don't need the wire cutters , pliers or winder.
-honestly, if your batteries in your bass or wireless give out in the middle of a show, you're an idiot (full disclosure, it happend to me on a festival gig in Calgary,your wireless should get new batteries for every show and you should pop the one in the bass out before every gig and do the tounge test)
-because I use a wireless ...if it fails I can just pull the cable out of the back of the receiver and use that.
-i use a GT-6B direct to the PA, if that goes down it's going to be because the stage power is off, so it doesn't really matter, 'cause everyone will be off.
-I try to keep my instrument in great shape, and I allways warm up with my little Korg Pandora , so , I KNOW that my bass is working fine just before I walk onstage.
-I hardly ever have time to drink the water, but it's nice to have it there(always remember to leave the cap screwed on tight....also learned the hard way)
