Battery compartment problem !!!

Hello,

I have owned a MM Stingray 5 for two years. The bass is great (sounds and plays great). About a week ago no sound started coming out of it. It turs out that if I gently knock on the battery compartment a lot of loud popping noises come out the amp, but then the bass works fine. After 5 minutes or so, or maybe after the vibrations of the bass get to my battery compartment, the bass goes mute again.

I treat my bass with a lot of care, so I am sorprised that something like this could be happening.

Has anyone here has that problem? Any ideas of where I should take it to get fixed? Does EarnieBall take basses in for a fix?

Take out your battery. While the holder is in the open position, pull up on it and sort of rock it back and forth while you pull up. The holder will pop out and you will be able to see the contact points that the battery touches. My guess is that they will be flat, not making good contact with the battery. Gently bend them inward so there is good contact.

Also, some batteries are larger than others. We use regular Duracells, and they fit best. The ones with the copper tops. I just had a Bongo sent to me by the band O.A.R. and they complained of no output. Guess what it was? They had some sorta mega Duracell in there, and it was so much bigger, that it would not go all the way in, and make contact.

Hey, I've done some "doh" things in my life, but I've never sent a bass back because the BATTERY WASN'T WORKING.

You would be suprised how many instruments I get in for repairs, and that is the only problem. Even after I talk to the owners on the phone and walk them through the process for this malady(Sp)

I don't think malady is a Spanish word.

I had the same problem, new stingray was equipped with a duracell battery, which was a bit too big appearently. I took out the battery (which was'nt simple, because the battery was too big for the compartement), putted a new one in it, and no more sound. I had to go back to the shop, the contact wires needed to bee solded back too the compartement. Not a big issue though, after 5 minutes, everything was perfect again

How long does a battery usually lasts in your basses?

I ask this question because I've just bought my first bass with an active preamp (a nice StingRay5 )

I've had my stingray since September of last year, and have had the same battery in there since.

I'll depend on how often and for how long you play.

Disconnect the jack from the guitar-body when not in use to preserve battery life.
