Are there any lightweight amps that put out big power? I love the Markbass sound, but Id like to know what else is out there to chose from when it comes to hi-watt, low-weight bass heads.... Thanks a lot.

I just purchased a GK MB115 combo amp. It normally sells for $399.99 but I got mine for around $229.99 new with free shipping and no tax. So far it has been a great little amp. I wouldn't use it for large venues but medium to small venues it does great and for the money I could not pass up the deal.

Mesa also makes some great stuff but I am having a hard time justifying their stuff as they are super expensive. The set up I want from them would be over 3K just for 1 head unit and 1 cab and for that price I am having a hard time spending the money when there are a lot of other brands out there almost as good but that sell their products for way less money.

Personally, although I like Markbass, I tend to always keep it flat on the EQ and when I do change it, I dont tend to get the sound im after. Flat is good though!

The LM2/3 and F500 are great amps.

However, for me, the TC RH450 nails perfect tone with Musicman's every time.

I have just sold my LM3 and pre-ordered a Genz Streamliner 900....not for the wattage, for the fact it has a great EQ (apparently) and is extremely warm and musical sounding.

I have heard good stuff about Genz-Benz and they have a very good reputation for customer service. I played a Neo Pack 3.5 (I think) for backline at a gig once with a 2x12 cabinet of theirs and I have tried a Shuttle 6.0 and they both sounded very good. The Streamliner demos that I have heard also sound really good.

Keep in mind that my setup will set you back about $2000. I like bassguy411's setup for a budget rig at about HALF the price, but almost TWICE the weight of my Genz rig. Remember:

Powerful, Light. Cheap (pick 2).

I chose the BX500 for it's power and sound quality, the $400 price was way under any Markbass gear. My cabinet selections were based on build and overall sound quality. The icing on the cake is that my rig is very lightweight. Head was purchased New ,both cabinets were local finds off CL. just under $800 total

I guess LIGHTweight is a relative term...

Actually , comparable weight specs ,lets see Genz Benz STM-900 head 6.5 lbs vs. just under 6 lbs on the BX500 head . Genz Benz Gb-1288T -UQ cab 58 lbs. vs. 55 lbs. on the Avatar Neo 212 cab , The markbass will leave your wallet lighter for sure. JK Good stuff though, I guess if I had the extra $$$ I might consider some of the upper level brands. For now I'll stick with the Carvin even though it's resell value sucks
