I have to say over the years, that Bongo is choice, prime-Cut drop dead insanely gorgeous, unbelievably well-built, and an absolute tone monster as all Bongos are.A true one-off gem.

Yeah, yeah, go ahead.... rub it in, why dontcha? Wait a sec, let me cut my finger open for you. Here's some lemon juice. Go head, pour it on. Oh, and would you like some salt to rub in there as well? No problem. Have at it....

Well, since you asked Mr. Douglas....

OK, happy to oblige! :D

The TONE that MahogoBongo gets is unreal- SO rich, real thick and phat.
Any Bongo of course is capable of rattling the walls and shaking your shoes, but THIS...

Well, all I can say is that it reaches a new level, an added dimension, some secret sauce, if you will..

Plus, it's so frickin' drop-dead gorgeous! The fine builders at EBMM outdid themselves with this one (Not that all the MM instruments aren't the shizzle) but that neck has to be seen and felt to be believed. So Kewl!

Look, all I did was get straight and buy it! (and play it!) Every time I use that bass I get comments, and besides my standard P/J basses, I also own and play among others, a Trussart SteelCaster, and used to have a Lull T-Bass- both lookers.

But seriously, something about that crimson-tint Mahogany Bongo makes even Drummers! and Guitarists! and Vocalists! take notice, and we all know that they collectively are, well...clueless and oblivious about the bass guitar.

It's already been established scientifically that the Bongo is a total chick-magnet; this one is the BradPitt/JohnyDepp/TomCruise/GuyintheVampireMovies edition...

It is in a league of it's own, (outside of Larue's who only has one H on HIS!:D)
And there it will remain...

Until the smart SOB's who ordered the PDN Mahogany Bongoes with roasted necks take delivery, and they are going to be so happy lemme tellya. You'll hear SCREAMS! shortly here.

Seeing that pic above of the "Vault Basses" brought back happy memories- That painted 'Ray was so off-the-hook too- It was light, and almost 3-D, unbelievable. Wow if EBMM did a custom shop, which I know won't happen..
(Or if they'd make ME a Single-Cut..)

Let me say this about this"Contest"- IF you are playing an EBMM bass-

It is awesomely beautiful and you WIN!

Period.

this thread needs more sparkles

This classic may not appeal to everyone, but I loved the color. Alas, I never bonded with this one, and it is now elsewhere.

Thanks for obliging. Great read.

You said everything that needed to be said, but I have a slight feeling that that is not gonna shut us up. :)

You're welcome, Mah pleasure!
Keep talking far as I'm concerned!:D

Careful tho! jlepre might feel he has to state AGAIN that pics are required for his thread!

So to that end, here's one of what I think is one of the best-looking Balls I've seen:

Luv this "beater" Ray, it has LIVED!:D

Wow...that is an unusual finish Gary. It's a solid finish but with a Sunburst kind of effect. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before.

Edit: Oh yeah...of course Jack's Reflex has that combo....and that is one killer-looking bass. Do you call that Lambo-burst?

Yep, that color was called Autumn Redburst, only a few Rays and even fewer Sterlings were ever made in that finish. If there ever was an orange Dargie, I woul like to think it would look like that.

The Reflex is Lamborghini Orange with burst edges, so that's what I call it: Lambo-Burst. (Some wags call it the "Acid Reflex".)

I've always been taken by this one-off mahogany-bodied Bongo. This was the first time the finish that was ultimately put on the 30th SRs was seen in public.

I got to hold it at the 07 desert bash. It's heavy but gorgeous. Killer birdseye on the neck.

The bass now belongs to a forumite who snagged it while I was sleeping.

Not gonna lie, never been big on the Bongo, but the more I see them... the more they grow on me. And this bongo is a beauty!

Have you played one? The pre-amp/pups of the Bongo, the BLEND (on the HH/HS) destroys all; those who are put off by the shape-outside of personal taste, aesthetic, etc. NEED to know that the ergonomic of the instrument is well-thought out. It's well-hung. Haha, Seriously, the designers have a clue.

As far as that particular Mahogany-bodied bass, well, what could I say that hasn't already been said?!
:D
