here are my two babies signed by John Petrucci. I STRONGLY SUGGEST you get yourself a PAINT MARKER SHARPIE, not the regular ones. I brought my own and have John use it to sign my guitars. it's been a year now and the signature have not faded at all.

nopes,, i didnt apply anything to protect it. you may have to spend $4 for one paint marker sharpie but we all know it's totally worth it!!!

if anywhere I suggest the backplate, you can always get another one( atleast I think u can). And if u need to sell, someone who might not want a paintjob covered in marker can always replace it.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if JP (or anyone for that matter) gets nervous when signing a guitar. I'm sure he doesn't want to mess it up any more than we'd want him to.
Also, my signature is terrible, it never looks the same way twice. Most famous musicians really seem to have some flair with their sigs...maybe it comes with being creative, or just a lot of practice.

JP accidentally signed on the backplate when I asked him to sign on the paint... Starting the first stroke of the "J"...
He apologized for messing up my guitar, and offered to draw a smiley face on his half signed "J"... lol...

Any idea where I can get a good clearcoat?
I think the last time I tried to spray varnish on permanent marker, it ended up spraying away the marker!

I got my luke signed just beneath the neckplate. I still think it's the best place, but I was too stupid to put a clearcoat on it. Now the 2005 looks like 2001 and I got 1 kiss and 1 hugg less

The other spot you could get a signature is the plate covering the control cavity... I would have thought that would be less likely to get wiped off on your shirt?
