So I've decided to go ahead and buy a brand new EBMM Axis. I'm curious though, should I go to my local dealer or order online from Sweetwater or somewhere similar? What are your experiences with this?

Hi Allen. I'd say "it depends" - on what you're most comfortable with. Places like Sweetwater and other dealers have Axis models in stock. Very little waiting if you can find what you're looking for. Some also offer financing if that's your thing. If you want that "certain" Axis configuration and are willing to wait you can order exactly what you want from any number of EBMM dealers. There are a number of VERY good dealers who frequent these forums. I'm sure they'd take VERY good care of you.

As far as my experiences I've not purchased a brand new EBMM guitar as of yet. I'm just passing along my general knowledge on the subject. I've used Guitarcenter's used EBMM guitar stock to my advantage. I've saved a TON of $ doing so and was able to buy REALLY nice EBMM guitars at a discount.

@edhalen - So you've have good luck with used EBMM guitars? I've noticed a HUGE difference in price between new and used but was always a little hesitant to pull the trigger.

Yes - I've purchased two different ones and been fortunate. The key imho is if you go the Guitarcenter used route is to make sure to contact the particular store which has the one you want and have them send a bunch of pictures. You could also ask them for the s/n and post it in the s/n thread here and AJ can tell you when it was built. That way you'll know how old it is. The GC folks will also give you a verbal description over the phone if you ask. I always ask for close up pictures of the front and back and headstock, neck, etc. Basically what you'd see if you checked "the bay". Two other things. One - if you live near a GC store have the guitar shipped there so you can check it out before you take it home. That way if you don't like it you can return it right then and there. Second - they have a 30 day money back guarantee so you're protected if you don't get what you're expecting. I hope this helps.

EDIT - here's the one I own now which I just purchased a few weeks ago.

Allen,

I like all that edhalen is saying - one thing I'll add is: if you're buying a guitar with any kind of "finish" to it other than a solid color that you get a good HARD look at the actual guitar and not just order blindly from anywhere.

I have a couple guitars I've picked up over the years that I've seen some striking examples of their wood grain possibilities and I have "plain jane" models. No, doesn't make them sound different, but my plain jane's cost the same money as the striking examples and wish I had looked at the exact guitars before committing...

Thanks for the advice guys. I really appreciate it! There's one for sale over at Chris's Guitars that I'm thinking of picking up once I get the cash.

You can also give reverb.com a look as well, that's where I got this gorgeous axis. And yeah, I need to do a NGD post!

One doesn't always have this choice...with the JP15 I had to order in order to get it. Who knows if it ever would have been at a store to check out before buying.

If you do purchase new, might I recommend buying/ordering locally? Should an issue arise, a local dealer will save travel time and possibly shipping costs if work is required.

Also as Ed stated, don't discount used or pre owned. You may save hundreds and have a guitar of equal quality.

Well it seems the planets aligned and I was lucky enough that my local shop got in a used 10/10 dead mint 2011 Axis. I put my 25% down on it and will be paying it off over the next couple months. It was pricey but it is absolutely perfect and it was great to buy local and the shop is right across the parking lot from my office. Plus with it being 30 seconds away from my office I can play it anytime until it's paid off.

As soon as I get some pics I will post them. SOOOOOOOO Excited!!!!!!

You're right Kevin, but I'm going to try to hold off until I have another payment ready. Actually I'm over in Edwardsville, IL. I've been in Danville a few times. I believe X-Krush is from that neck of the woods aren't they?

Nice pic! What camera you used? If you used your phone, how did you get the background to blur?

Canon 5DmkII with the 85mm f/1.8 prime. No effects, just used the laws of optics with a fast lens! The only processing done was tweaks to shadows/highlights in picasa.

OP, nice score! Enjoy once you can bring it home!

Isn't there a blood donor center nearby you could make a few bucks at? This is an EBMM guitar we're talking about here! :)

I have a daughter in college in SIUE in Edwardsville - make it over there once in a while myself.

Yup, X-Krush are pretty much local boys and have seen them several times - certainly an energetic show.

Best way to get a BRAND NEW axis is to get a 5$ effects pedal and goto guitar center and "trade" it in. The cheap pedal gets you 10% off new guitars.

Brings your cost to ~$1970 for a new axis.
