BFR JP6 vs PRS Custom 24

I had the pleasure of owning a PRS Custom 22 Artist grade guitar, and it was a phenomenal instrument. However, it just seemed so ornate to me, that I was afraid to play it outside my home! I ended up selling it in order to purchase my Mark V and cabinet. My JP6 is just FAR more in line with the type of player I am, just feels more "me". The build quality is just as good, the neck feels awesome, it's just so versatile and playable. I guess in a perfect world, I would own both! Both are excellent guitars, it's a matter of your personal preference. It's my opinion that PRS are SO very over-priced these days. Sure EBMM's are not cheap either, but a loaded BFR F1 is still cheaper and more versatile in comparison to a loaded PRS Custom 24. Personally, I can't wait to get my next Music Man!

I'd choose the JP6. plus, I had a CU24, was a nice guitar, but the pick ups weren't so impressive.

Have you ever considered the fact that I might be more of a fan of another EBMM model than the Petrucci model, you incessant fanboy? Who are you, EBMM's blind-eyed lap dog? According to your rationale, every model that EBMM makes trumps what any and all other guitar makers create. You know that scene on "Pulp Fiction" where that guy unlocks the trunk and let's his chained-up "gimp" out? If EBMM were in possession of such a trunk, you'd be locked up inside it mate.

Hey tm! I've got a cu24, don't get me wrong, it truly is a stunning guitar, but for me the JP6 has it beat! It's the most comfortable guitar i've ever played, fits like a glove!

Play both and decide for yourself which one suits you better. PRS makes some fine instruments and so does Music Man. Go for the one you like best.

Could you put your location into your profile (user cp up in the upper left). It helps. I agree 100% with PetrucciRocks02 and personally would do exactly the same thing. If it came down to 2 guitars, go out of your way to find a place with both and try them back to back. When I compared a Sub-1 to a SBMM Silo-20 to an EBMM Silo, I found some obvious differences and a lot of subtle things (like the difference in balance and feel). Even playing one on Tuesday and the other on Wednesday isn't going to give that to you.

I can't give you my take on the 2 guitars you talk about. I did play a JP yesterday for a good hour, but only talked with one of the sales people about the PRS semi-hollow that's dropped $2k since I first started looking at it.

Try to find a good retailer who will ship you the guitars for a 24/48 hour trial. The only way to know is to play them both. There are a few dealers who have both brands in stock; your credit card will take a temporary beating but it may be wise to have both models shipped in at the same time.

All kidding aside, you are on the EBMM fourm so opinion is going to favor our favorite guiatr maker.

Nothing wrong with PRS, quality guitars and i do like a couple of their models but i much prefer Musicman overall, like others have said find a way to try them both and make a decision based on what works for you.

Tough call if you cannot try them to compare. I've owned a PRS IRW McCarty and thought it was a great feeling guitar, well built, solid rosewood neck felt great, and looked good too. I never bonded with it, so I sold it. I've played a JP, both standard and BFR and liked the feel and sound on those.

The JP and PRS will sound and feel different from each other, but it really comes down to what you want out of a guitar.

If it was my call, I'd go the JP BFR...it has the sound and feel that I prefer and the piezo is an added bonus.

I think it comes down to the feel of the neck ad the string spacing. Try them out and see which one your fingers tirelessly fly on.

About a month ago i found myself pondering the same question- i was looking for a high end guitar and have always loved EBMM guitars as well as PRS guitars... I spent all weekend playing both at guitar center... and this is what i walked away with...
dollar for dollar EBMM is a much better product and i chose to buy a music man. I haven't been any happier with my choice. I have been playing for well over 20 years and i've played just about everything under the sun and for me EBMM is the only guitar i will play from here on out. A friend of mine refers to PRS as the trophy wife of guitars... sure they look good but under the surface they're really nothing special.
There is such a passion that is put into each and every EBMM and i've never seen any company with such interaction from the company: from the owner, endorsed artists to the sales reps everyone loves the company and contributes to family we call EBMM.

If you are referring to Paul Reed Smith, according to BP he doesn't actively participate in their forums. Too much of a hassle. With that in mind, I think we all owe BP a huge thank you for being active with us knuckleheads because I know we can be a frustrating lot sometimes.

Seriously? I wonder why diverse artists like Michael Akerfeldt, Al DiMeola, Steve Wilson or David Grissom play PRS then?

I get that you dig EBMM because I do too. That's no reason to dump on another brand. Quality products stand on their own without having to mudsling other brands.
