I love Ed's reviews...Interestingly, this review confirmed why I like my Sterling with just one humbucker...too many choices would drive me crazy...I can see some folks loving all these choices, but not for me...

I am trying to decide between a Bongo and a Big Al. I still haven't been able to find a dealer in my region that actually stocks a Big Al, I keep sucking up any material from the big Interwebs I happen to find (That dealer thing is still being sorted out).
Since your reviews are by far the best out there, I naturally jumped on this one as well. I do understand that you had to push it in editing to meet that 10 minute time limit, so I was wondering if some of the EQ changes just ended up on the floor of the editing room.
So I try to be more specific: when you start the finger style examples in active mode you give us the settings as "bass and low mids boosted, high mids boosted a tiny bit, treble flat" which makes perfect sense ("Fat!" ... "Superfat!") to my ears. Later, when starting the active pick style, it is "bass boosted and low mids boosted a tiny bit", which again works for me.
What I am missing here is the EQ for active slap style. Would that be the typical lows + highs boosted, mids cut or did you actually play that with the same settings as finger style?
I hope I'm not being too much of a PITA here ... blame it on the Tube's 10 mins limit, if so.

No problem. For slap I typically boost lows and highs, but tend to leave the mids flat. IMO, cutting mids destroys the impact of the attack and gets too "Fieldy" for my taste. That said.... I may have monkeyed around with boosting the low mids on some of these settings, I can't remember. Sorry.

@Ed -- Talking of the EQ setings: May I ask why you don't leave the EQ always flat for all reviews? I'd have thought that reviewing a bass with the same settings for all samples would give a more neutral overview and a better comparision between different models or makes. Probably there's a bit of wisdom I'm overlooking. Thanks.
