Big Poppa bracing for the second guessing Monday

Just guessing, but I doubt that any of the new models will be redundant sonically as compared to any existing models. Historically, that has not been the MO...

Will the bridge PUP be closer to the bridge on the HH models? I believe it is this way on the HH Bongo?

I feel that in order to be distinct, the Stingray sound needs to be preserved in the two pickup models.

Well...as far as the dual pickup Stingray goes, it will be a Stingray. Only The Shadow knows if placement on the (now) bridge pickup will be changed, but I personally have a lot of faith in Dudley and the entire R&D team. I'm sure the Stingray will sound like a Stingray. I would be surprised if the Stingray didn't sound an awful lot like a Stingray.

Because, you know, it's a Stingray.

In other words, when soloed, the humbucker closest to the bridge still needs to have that SR sound. If the sound is closer to a generic HH or SH sound, it will make the Bongos redundant.

I've never heard anyone suggest that Musicman basses have a 'generic' sound, no matter what the pickup configuration, and that has a lot to do with the preamp and electronics, I think...so all in all, I'd say there's nothing to worry about.

And Bongos will never be redundant, not as long as they look, sound and play like they do.

C'mon, join the Dudley Gimpel Fan Club! We're going to have shirts and a secret handshake and maybe a tree house.

Guys, I mean absolutely no disrespect to the Bongo. Heck, I'm trying to figure out how I can afford one! That said, Bongos, to me, don't have that Stingray "zing." They are wonderul sounding basses in their own right, they just sound closer to other "modern or Hi-Fi" basses than does the Stingray to my ears.

Dude, those so do not count as new models.

:D:D:D:D

I kid, I kid. Someone had to say it. I really dont mean it. I've had a 2 bucker Ray on the brain for a long long time, and now I can get one without butchering the poor thing that falls into my hands. I think these will really sell. Im thinking a bigger factory and more employees might be right around the corner. Speaking of which, where can I get a job application? :D:D

awww man. i just pulled the trigger on a new sterling...if i had come across this sooner i would have definitely waited longer for a dual pickup sterling. oh well.

Yeah! Do you guys need any entry-level workers during the summer? Willing to relocate. :p

This is amazing news! A 2 H SR5 is just what I have been waiting for. To have all the goods of the hardest working 5 string bass in existence combined with the flexibility of a neck pick-up, the new 2 H SR5 along with the other new dual pick-up models are truly legends in the making. These are good times indeed. Thx to Big Poppa and all at EBMM!!!

Cheers,
Bassjones

Sweet Jesus!!

I'm gone for a few hours and look what I miss!

I look forward to the new EB offering!

BP said EBMM offers a total of 30,000 unique instruments in their line-up. With these new models and the lefty Bongos, how much more that number will increase!

"Custom Shop: When your normal production sucks."
:D

sounds fantastic I need to save my cash!!

One question BP or anyone at eb are they going to be called a stingray or stingray 2 ( or sterling , sterling 2 etc) to tell which model is which ? or just under the moniker of a stingray?

if you guys are talking about color imagin a trans-yellow, nice and bright... that to me would be amazing.

I'm seeing it now..... or hearing it now!

sunburst SR5, tort pickguard, Single /humbucking, rosewood board, matching headstock....

Or maybe a dual h if there are coil taps....

low thump, great growl...look out!

This really is a rather huge deal, isn't it?

Is this possibly the biggest roll-out in EB MM history?

This is so cool. Now the Stingray and Sterling guys can experience what us Bongo HH guys have sooooo much enjoyed. (Not to say that the single pup is no lightweight!)

The wife walked in on me while I was reading this post... first words out of her mouth: "Where are the credit cards?" followed by "You have that look... don't get any ideas," followed lastly by "Tell them (meaning BP and the EBMM staff) to quit putting bad ideas inside your head." - seriously :D
