My point is that there is customer service available with an easy phone call.

Jon, Repairman to the Stars, is also easily available.

If it's a customer service item, call customer service.

If it's a repair issue, call Jon.

I'm not saying to never PM the guy. Maybe there are good reasons to do so, but too many people apparently think it's okay to ask him for knobs.

(And I get the knob thing! Bloody Englishmen.)

Jack

Thanks Jack. I didn't mean to sound heavy handed. Your point is well taken. ;)

Would you PM the head honcho of General Motors if you needed a knob for the CD player in your car? I doubt it.

Your point Jack?? I think BP puts his pants the same way we all do. I never have pm'd him nor do I intend to, but if I thought it was important and relevant I would. This is his companies site and he makes himself accessible......Not to people needing knobs mind you.

Your point,Bonzo? It has nothing to do with how I put my pants on. Being accesible here doesnt make it ok to extend contact in any way. I guess your argument is that if I'm here than Im fair game even though I have asked a dozen times for people to respect customer service and my time by not private messaging me. Does that meant that they can drop by the house? Should I post my cell number because I post here?

My point is that it seems to me to be a small request that people refuse to adhere to.

Keeping up with the Jones's.

I may not PM the head honcho of General Motors, but will ask Big Poppa for one! It's an '01 Cavalier, and the volume knob is a little sticky. Can I get a new stereo with free installation?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

But people are lazy and might not have read all of the forum threads. After all, you're only a click away. Worse, customer service sucks so bad at most companies that it's useless talking to them. That's certainly not the case here, but you have to admit, you're likely to be talking to someone reading a script in a foreign country these days.

So the opportunity to start at the top becomes irresistable to lazy, stupid, unthinking people.

There are a couple of easy solutions. The first is that the forum software could be modified to remove the PM button when people click on your name BP. Or maybe adding a note to the PM form saying "If you're PM'in BP, think several times."

Guys this is out of hand...Its simple I should be able to keep my pm on because I need it from time to time....I am asking that people not pm me simple as that.

BP I wasn't aware of that request and it maybe because I'm new here. I apologized to Jack and I do to you as well. I understand and respect your request. Yes that was my assumption as far your accessibility goes and we all know what they say about that word. Again no offense meant to anyone.

I still think a solution to the BP PM thing is this--

1) Turn off PMs on the public 'BigPoppa' account

2) Create super-double-secret account for BP that is not disclosed to rabid knuckleheads and disclose it only to those who need to know.

3) Any legitimate PM from the select few that need to know the BP super-double-secret account can be sent to said account with an email notification

4) Profit

It certainly seems an easier solution to modifying the software.

The only difference is that BP has to log in to a second account to get PMs. But, if it is only occasionally, it might be a lot less hassle than a continued deluge of knob requests and ensuing thread reminders.

I would like to think that the core group of faithful knuckleheads are not the problem here. It is probably people who are new and won't have seen the multiple reminders not to PM.

At the very least, a sticky called "DO NOT PM BIG POPPA UNDER PAIN OF DEATH" at the top of each forum is more likely to be effective than expecting N00bs to find the threads saying not to do it. I mean--if someone saw a thread called "Big Poppa's PM of the Week" without actually reading it, they might think it's not only allowed, but encouraged.

Would it be great if this didn't have to be done? Of course, but it would be nice to live in a world where you don't have to lock your doors at night, too...

Just sayin'...

How about "IF YOU PM BP ABOUT A KNOB, YOU'RE A KNOB"
