Bongo and Strap Locks

Hey Bovine (or anyone else out there using Dunlop Strap Locks with a Bongo)

Have you had any problems with the screw backing out of the strap lock closest to the bridge? I'm constantly having to screw it in and now I'm pretty sure that it's no longer going to hold like it should.....and NO, I didn't overtighten it when I first screwed it in. Didn't really look but is the original screw that came out bigger than the one that comes with the strap locks?

snap a tooth pick off in the hole then put the screw in it will hold.

When I installed the Dunlops on my Bongo, the original screws that EB used with their strap buttons were a little bigger than the ones for the Dunlops. If I were you, I'd simply break off a toothpick in the screwhole, and put a drop of crazy glue on it. Then, screw the straplock button on, again. You shouldn't have any more problems.

I use Dunlops and didn't notice the screws being different....nor have I had any problems with them coming loose.

Dang, maybe I should go have a look, though.

I have always used the Schaller's on my basses. I generally sub the little screw that comes in them with the one that came from the bass. I am not all that familiar with Dunlop's to know what size the screw is that comes with them. The toothpick trick works for any screw that gets loose however.

Yes, basswood has the uncanny knack for not shrinking around a screw that is smaller than the hole it's being screwed into.

I do believe the tooth pick that fixes the issue is softer than the Bongo.

I was going to comment about Schaller Straplocks on my Bongo but I think this thread has deviated beyond the point of no return so I'll keep quiet.
