Bongo Beginnings

BP - Thanks for the background. It is so cool getting educated about this stuff first hand.

Folks would ordinarily expect to find information about their interests and hobbies like this by reading books or the text of some interview. Perhaps the occasional documentary... But first hand? Awesome! :D

Hello all-

I didn't want to be the last of the engineers to join the forum, for fear of slander and ridicule- so I decided it was time to jump on in. My name is Jon and I work along side Dudley and Drew in the EB/MM Engineering department. But don't get me confused with my syringe-toting dog alter-ego of the same name, even if we do share the same birthday.

As Drew mentioned, it was a grand experience to work with JP and the rest of the EB crew last week doing what we do best- designing killer guitars! I can't wait to see what we come up with next.

I have enjoyed reading your posts, and I hope I can throw in a few bits in the future as needed. Now if we could just get Dudley in too....

2 down, one to go...

Mas cerveza por favor!

I am actually hoisting a cold Corona after mowing my lawn in 100 degree heat.

Ah, yes...

"mas cerveza, por favor"

and

"donde esta el baño de hombres?"

That represents my entire knowledge of the Spanish language.. Bovine was my Spanish teacher, he told me that those were all the words they had.. (aside from "tequila", "caliente" and "señorita".)

:D

I'm bringing a camera and plan on taking photos of doorknobs, trashcans, anything remotely connected to the Bongo Development Cycle.

psst Jack...look in the bathrooms.

Sorry, couldn't resist such an obvious opening.

That would be the door right under the sign saying "Damas"

It's a good thing the urinal quarter is stuck to the DPBB.
:D

Yeah, well it was "sanitized" before I sold it on eBay so I don't worry too much about the DPUQ as much as I do Lowell's toenail clippings that are under the Beck's bottle cap that got hammed into the body...hmmmm just when is BP's birthday anyway?? Maybe the DPBB would make a nice presentation to him after I sell my first 100 Bongos or something.

Did I just read that ?

Dude , your'e talkin about selling a hundred Bongos .... times they is a gettin weirder

I don't generally mess around...if I take on a product line I sell the crap out of it.

SteveB you have more espanol vocabulary than you let on.

I am not at all well versed in Spanish. I was 25 years ago.

Lesson use it or lose it is real.

I hear parts understand most spoken. I can't speak to save my life.

the lo siento

It can be fun, being a bilingual family. Jeremy understands 100% of what's said to him in either language, which at first seems cool...but then what do you do when you want to confuse him or say something in private?

A kid his age that understands two languages? You just love the hell out of him and be honest. You probably shouldn't say things you don't want him to understand.

In fact you probably can't. The fruit never falls far from the tree thing comes to mind here

IMHO

A kid his age that understands two languages?

Oh yeah - I continually torture him, and he gets it all. Erika has never spoken English with him - ever. When he's with his friends or his cousins and she speaks English just so everyone understands, he'll call her on it. "Mommy, why are you speaking English?"

When he was maybe one year old, Erika was traveling and he and I had been home without her for a week or so. I started to think, 'Hmm, maybe I should speak Spanish to him just so he can hear it.' I was feeding him and started to ask him, in Spanish, how was his day, had he learned anything new, blah blah blah.

I mean, he was one.

So he cocks his head to one side and listens to me for a while and eventually says, with a question in his tone, "Mommy?"

He didn't even understand the concept of two different languages, but he sure as hell knew that I was speaking "Mommy".

But he gets it now, the difference between the two languages....

Kids and language acquisition are fun things to watch.

That is awesome. He has a good mom and pop. May he always understand.

I adopted a girl that is hispanic. She knows less of the language than I do. She wants to learn. I am struggling to get it back.

I am proud of her as any father can be. She is special. She is asking to learn. That says it all to me.

Call me crazy or whatever. This is life.

Playing bass is fun, hell even arguing bass is fun.

Getting the gig is good. But only if we aren't letting our kids down.

I going for a beer now.
