Well, I'm still considering whether to send it to you or have a luthier work on it. Just a quick question... If I were to send the bass to you for repair, is there a service charge, in addition to the cost for the new nut? Thanks!

I am willing to bet Jon could email someone instructions on fixing their EB bass and they would be plumb happy with the outcome.

I'm wondering about that. He's only eight, but our cousins spoil him with loads of money. However, all that money is stored in some super secret Swiss bank account or something. Still, it'd be shameful to take money from an eight year old.

Dude, it's just a freakin nut. Take it to your local luthier and have him make you new one.
Even better get him to make you one from 7000 series alloy and you'll get improved top end and won't have to worry about your little brother playing Lone Ranger and using your bongo as Silver.

No...For one thing it is a compensated nut that you can't get from anyone else but us, and alloy nuts make about as much sense as brass ones did in the 80's. Unless you only play open strings they don't do squat.
 
it seems like the nut wouldnt be the expensive part...if you had to send the bass back to jon it would probably get expensive...i dont know about the service part but the shipping has to be at least 20 bucks for something as big as a bass
