I bought my Black 5 HS to be my backup to my Rosewood 5HH, I really didn't think it would light me up like the Rosie, man was I wrong. Now I fully understand just how incredible the design of this bass is. It has to be the most
tonally versatile bass made. I have to +1 with adouglas's great preceding post, which say's it all with the ad, not to mention the fact that this thread has legs which serves as a testament to the Bongo, long live the Bongo.

I sure thought about my Bongos last night.

FTR, I'm in Mississippi, visiting family/friends/shrimp and have no basses with me.

But a guy I haven't seen in 35 years asks me, "Do you want to jam?" Sure, but I didn't bring anything with me. "Don't worry, I have a bass and an amp for you." Okay, it's a couple of hours of probably Mustang Sally and Rockin' In the Free World and that ain't rocket surgery - right? I can play whatever he's got.

And what he's got is an Ibanez cheapie and a Behringer combo. Okay, I'm not a snob. I played it and made it work (after running a line to the PA - these boys play LOUD). And the drummer was exceptional, which makes everything better somehow.

But may the FSM forgive me, I could not stop thinking about my own basses and why I have them.

Then come back and tell us why you like your Bongo and what does it do for you which is what this thread is all about, the idea is that people give their personal impression as to why the Bongo is a break-through instrument and share their experiences with the other Bongoloids.

I forgot to add...

I love my Bongo because even if your strings are dead as a dodo you can still get a decent sound, whereas any other bass with dead strings well and truly sux!

haha, sounds as if I was asking for it there, but no... my Stingray does not but, my point here is that thanks to the wonderful preamp and neodymium pickups the Bongo can really compensate for dull sounding strings where most basses would sound muddy.

Having owned 2 Bongo Basses in the past.... I just could never warm up to them. First off,.....everyone would tell me it looked like a toilet seat. Which didn't bother me too much since I actually love the way they look. I have to say the sound was amazing, and it is probably one of the most versatile basses on the market. I just could never really seem to dial in that bright, punchy Stingray growl with it though. Don't get me wrong,.....I would buy another Bongo without thinking twice about it if I came across one that I just couldn't live without. Especially a Candy Red one..........drool!!!

Just wanted to say this thread is helping while I wait for my first Bongo to arrive via Fedex (hopefully tomorrow).

I traded it for my SR5HH which I loved- me and the tradee each feel we got the better deal. We're both right.

I'll confess the Bongo looks didn't inspire me until I tried one... and this darned forum fueled a major GAS pain after that spark was lit.

I'll be shootin' y'all with questions soon and hopefully add to this thread saying I'm a fanboy

Now where is that Fedex truck???
