Halle-freakin'-leujah.

Amen, Pops.

Cooking along quite nicely with no driver larger than 5.5 inches, thanks.

+1 - and what Craig said.

I've heard a phrase quoted 'I can feel the bass, I can see the bass player, but I can't hear any of the notes he's playing' - it really sums up the sound at some live gigs and on some records - why do some sound people do this :(

back in the 70s dub reggae players had very bassy sounds live but you could still hear the notes as well.

i have re-fallen in love with the 15" driver, thanks to markbass, i now have the sound that i grew up on and love, the classic 15" jbld140, but brought up to date. my markbass 15" cabs have all the lows and hump of the classic 15" jbls, but also have all the fast attack mids punch of the 10's we've all been stuck with for the last 20 years as pretty much the ONLY option. lets see we have a 4x10 cab option, or.... a 4x10 cab option, from every single manufacturer. marco is a genius. i have no idea how he improved upon a classic sound and simultaneously cut the weight of the cabs by way over half. my single 15 cab is like styrofoam, but takes a serious beating and doesnt rattle at all, even under a microscope. it goes everywhere with me, stage and studio. markbass and musicman... like peanut butter and jelly.. huh bp??? (i want that to be my marketing slogan, unless youve already given it to someone else) the live sound guys applaud me when they see my rig coming thru the door, cause clearly he is sensible and going to be "controllable". then we soundcheck, and attitudes change. they have never screamed that it didnt sound good though, only that there is too much. one even offered to do my taxes.

i have never understood the concept of, "lets add ALL the effects that are CRUCIAL to the sum total of this song having ANY vibe whatsoever, way , way, way, AFTER we have recorded the song and everyone has gone home".hmmmmm... " hey .... i know... how bout we add them right HERE and NOW, so i dont have to hate you, and myself, when i hear it all screwed up on the radio 6 months from now!!" "deal???" i also dont understand ANY PART of not having an actual amp onstage, using in ear monitors instead of wedges, or turning down so low, that there is NO VIBE to the music whatsoever so the "live sound engineer" can have "complete control" over the mix...hhhmmm.... how about, "NO!!! " you are a "live sound" engineer... i dont want you having ANY control over our mix. if you actually knew what the he!! you were doing, you would be a "studio engineer", not to mention, you are really just the bands first drummer that we couldnt bring ourselves to TOTALLY fire. giving you total control of the mix, would be like taking my tax forms to the County Fair every year so the "Carnies" could work out my Schedule C and Deductions...... NO THANKS!!! by the way.... "Hows the bass sound out there???"

Man I love you....

AMEN!

Peace,

T

I repeat myself when under stress, I repeat myself when under stress, I repeat.....at the risk of repeating myself, I mentioned to a horde of weirdos the other day that Peter Gabriel's "So" was one of those watershed moments for modern electric bassists - and I kind of doubt that Lanois told Tony Levin to knock off the bass shenanigans, that he'd punch it up later over tea.

I see the wisdom in getting a good, clean, unadulterated bass tone on "tape", whatever that means now, but YEAH. YEAH with a dirty word in front of it to what Craig said.

Plus Craig is doing my taxes this year.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. I've been reading this forum because I've been searching for gear info on my favorite bass player Craig Young. I just wanted to ask exactly which Markbass cab and amp you use, if you would like to share that? Thanks!

I'm still trying to get my head round this but are when we talk about getting more tones for the game changer do we mean something like have a chorus effect, like a built in effects processor, on the bass/guitar or having different pickup sounds regardless of what pickups the instrument has?

More of the second. I believe it doesn't do effects but can manipulate how the pickups are configured together and the EQ placed upon them. This supposedly can give a HUGE tonal pallette. Think of a bass with a 100 way selector switch for selecting WHICH pickups are blended, a pan knob for each blending and a series/parallel switch for each leg.... oh and a n-Band EQ. Lots of combinations, but what they done is make it preset based, so you get the ease of the 5-way selector switch + the varsitility of a Bongo on steroids.

Think.... settting 1, the front single coil from the neck humbucker blended in parallel (20%) with the two coils of the bridge humbucker in series (80%) with whatever type of EQing you want.

Setting 2, bridge in series 50% with neck in parallel 50%.

...etc...

I've taken some liberties here that may or may not be true.... but from my understanding it is going to allow you to use the hardware on YOUR bass in the way YOU want to use it..... instead of factory limitations on wiring, EQ frequencies, etc. They are going to provide factory presets, but you can add whatever you want. Lots of possibilities, but still easy enough to be point and shoot at a gig.

Hope this helps...

To EBMM/Better Informed Forumites.... if I'm just off my rocker and missed the concept completely.... please just tell me to shove it. :D

i use the 151p 15" cab, everyday. im still waiting on a shipment of heads. from what i have played, and heard so far, i really like the little marks. they sound more tube than my vintage tube amps. and im talking about the solid state little mark. i have pretty much one of everything coming. just got word that a good assortment of yellow and black bass toys is going to be delivered tomorrow. cant wait. now i gotta figure out where to put all this stuff. ive got a bunch of old tube classics for sale if anyone lives near nashville, come get this stuff out of my way, and bring on the markbass!!

thats it matt. you can roll your own presets, but i gotta say, the ones that drew put together and it comes stock with are soooo freakin killer, that i spent the whole time i had the gamechanger just listening to / using those, and theres a bunch of them. and thats coming from a total tweaker. the gamechanger is way active huge if you want it to be, or totally subtle and passive. its dead simple to use, and the tone is totally up to you. i cant speak highly enough of it really.
