guys remember with the burst its cleaning two guns for one paint job

BP - you guys do do more than one body at a time though, don't you? I'm thinking economy of scale here... it would dilute the cost of break-down clean-up maintenance of the two guns if more than one was painted at a time...

The cost of labor is easily understandable.

Which is why colors that aren't ordered enough are discontinued, because they might not be able to paint enough at a time to make it viable.
This is, of course, just my interpretation ;)

I believe there are multiple paint booths.. the person painting is wearing a special suit with air pumped in.. the booth also has airflow to exhaust the fumes. It's a real, honest-to-goodness human being painting these instruments, one by one. Sure, I'll bet they shoot as many of a particular color 'in a row' as they have on order at the moment, but it's still a highly manual process. Thank heaven for that, 'cause each one is a work of art.

I believe they do paint one body at a time... I'm with you in thinking they do runs of the same color as much as possible.

I still wonder if the MM company does use just-in-time manufacturing. I've read BP's blogs and he has stated he doesn't carry much inventory. Thats part of the concept. Let your suppliers carry the inventory, if at all possible. You order what you need just in time to produce the days or weeks orders. Could be a longer time interval. The point is to reduce having to store material, which takes space and management.

Toyota uses this method of manufacturing and I believe Walmart uses this concept in their business to some extent.

Yes, Music Man only makes guitars that they have orders for (and of course, a few extras to handle unforeseen events). They don't crank out inventory and warehouse them anywhere. As soon as they're built, they're shipped to the dealer or overseas distributor that ordered them.

Woah woah woah...on the MM site under 7 string BFRs it has KOA listed as an option for 7 strings. It was my understanding that they didn't do these.

I'm not exactly sure what's going on here. When people earlier in this thread were discussing the cherryburst/honeyburst koa- I didn't pay much attention because I figured it only pertained to 6 strings, so...

Is the Axis Super Sport BFR available in Koa? I remember a limited number from a couple of years back.

If I'm remembering correctly that was just a very small run of Super Sports in Koa, not an item for order like the KOA JP and Luke BFR models.
