Is my Stingray 5 a one piece body or two pieces very very cleverly glued together and bookmatched in the middle? When I look at the grains, I can hardly tell, as there are no visible straight cuts or grains which are perfectly matched.

The serial n# E19640 according to 5Stringer the bass was built Dec 22nd 2000. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that all the translucent instruments came with a once piece body, but I might be wrong.

Perhaps the man who is in charge of the wood at EBMM can tell me more

Here are the best shots I could take to help you detect what I probably can or cannot see.

and here is a pic by the bridge and if you see in the middle by the A string there are even wood knots which show that there are no cut sections in the middle

Thanks for your expert opinion.

I can see how you thought it was one piece. I have a blue stingray I thought was one piece, so I had my wife look at it and she could see it was 2 piece. I should get some glasses.

Very nice looking chunk of lumber either way!

Many thanks for that. A couple of months ago I went through a dark phase in which I thought that for me to get a 25th Anniversary the Stingray would have to go, later I wisely decided against it as I am always coming back to it with devotion, it is a very warm and sonically impressive bass, the neck is to die for, the action perfect and despite it being nearly 10 years now, it still is in showroom conditons like all my instruments. Every time I play it I feel blessed for owning such a beautiful bass.

I'm pretty sure that is two pieces body according to a first photo!

But it's excellent work, almost invisible and don't worry you can't hear the difference in sound, 'cause gluing and matching of two pieces of ash people in EB company really doing great!

I'm even not sure for mine, 'cause it's Black Cherry Burst color, and in the middle of the body is transparent cherry finish, but still not sure is it one or two pieces! Now You are interested me some more, so I'll take a look at home! :D

I will always have a Stingray 5. Back in the good old days, when I was wheeling and dealing a lot more than I do now, I went through a lot of SR5s. Mostly because a color would strike me as desirable or someone I knew wanted to trade something or....well, because I was then (and remain, deep in my soul) a bass whore. But I was never without at least one SR5....sometimes several.

This one appears to be non-negotiable!
