I was finally able to watch the Canada/Russia game on the DVR so I can now surf the web safely.

The big difference between Canada and Russia - Canada looked like a team. The Russians should have worn their own team jerseys from the KHL and NHL the way they played. Canada's passing was unbelievable - there was an unreal 4-pass tic-tac-toe that almost resulted in a Nash goal in the 1st. And a 3-pass play that ended with Perry's goal.

Russia has some GREAT players but they just didn't gel the way Canada did. And they really needed a good game from their goal tenders.

One last thing - Semin better keep his head up the next time the Caps play the Sharks. And the Pens for that matter.

Ok - off to watch the other 2 quarterfinals. This is great.

Spot on, except that Bryzgalov had a good day (well, he could play without any pressure at all, he came at 6-1). Add to that, Babcock owned Bykov tactically. From a russain standpoint, this game should not be forgotten, but much rather learnt from. Bykov usually does.

I don't think it can get much more Canadian than the women getting fine for drinking beer on the ice after getting Gold :D The PM should pardon them ;)

I'm sure they can come to a fair settlement over a few pints of Moulson. I'll drink to a pardon! Cheers!

I wonder what would have happened if they won the Silver and drank beer on the ice?

Yeah, this whole drinking beer and smoking cigars on the ice is a bit of a non-story. I didn't get all the facts but the celebration apparently spilled out from the locker room and ended up on the ice. By the time this happened I think pretty much all of the spectators had left the arena. I think it's the media and IOC looking for a story that wasn't there.

On to the Men. The words, "by the skin of their teeth", comes to mind. Man, there was a total breakdown in the 3rd period. And they started to panic with about 5 minutes left. They're going to have to come out against the U.S. as strong and as hard as they did against Russia, or they are going to end up with Silver.

Thats the fact Jack.

Canada were lucky to pull it off last night. I think they lost some confidence which ain’t good considering that the USA are jacked and probably can’t wait for the game to start.

3pm EST Sunday. Should be one helluva game!

I don't know if it was a total breakdown. You want a total breakdown, ask Kippersoff about that.

2 things happened - Canada just wasn't as clean as they were against Russia, especially in their passing. And Slovakia went from conservative-mode into attack-mode. I think the real credit should go to the Slovakia team in stepping it up big time in the 3rd.

Canada's still tough but the USA has got momentum. It's anyone's game tomorrow! (I'm still reluctantly calling it as Canada taking the gold 5-3. I hope the US team proves me wrong.)

I don't know, man. When you look at the talent that's on that team, I think it was a breakdown. They controlled the 1st and 2nd periods. But didn't look like the same team in the 3rd. In the last couple of minutes they looked like a bunch of scared mice running around in a maze. And Mr. Crosby needs to pick up his play. He was basically invisible during that game.

You can probably guess who I think is going to win. But, it wouldn't surprise me if the U.S. pulled it off. I haven't checked yet but I would think the U.S. is considered the favorite, tomorrow. I've gotta give credit to whomever is running the U.S. hockey programs. The olympic program and especially the junior program(world jr. teams) have been impressive.

Warning: Unabashed Patriotism

I don't care about USA hockey. Canada rules. If the Americans win it will be because of a biased referee and a bribed goal judge.

We invented the game, made it great and support it with every fiber of our existence. We invented pucks. We even invented the Zamboni. They had to take fighting out of the game because the rest of the world was afraid to step on the ice with us. If the US ever invades Canada we'll flood the plains, let it freeze and run the Yanks out the rink, I mean country. We played without helmets. Canadian goalies played without masks. Maple Leaf forever. Rah rah rah. Go Canada! Did I say Go Canada yet?!?!

OK. All joking aside. It will be a hell of a game. The US and Canada play a similar style. The US is probably the only team that ice a defense that can withstand the size of the Canadian forwards. I believe Crosby will step up his game. The fact that the Slovaks came back was actually good for Canada. A little fear is a good motivator!

The American coach was concerned about Ryan Getzlaf of Canada, and with good reason. Big, tough, fast, and he can score. The coach said they have no answer for him. I believe he will be the key player either way. He plays big, Canada wins. USA neutralizes him and they could win.

Let's hope for a great game.

Ah, forget it. Let's hope Canada runs them out of the rink!

Yours unbiasedly

The only thing that strikes me as odd, is where actually Sid the Kid is? Almost non-existent in the quarter-finals (granted, Ovechkin wasn't there either), the same story in the semifinals. Canada is lucky enough to have other players who can take the responsibility and step up to be a team leader, but Sid should really take part in the tournament, too.

I'll probably be proven wrong, but I'll go with the USA on that - mainly because of Miller. In games like these a goalie is more than 50% of the team.

It's gonna be a helluva game! I hope USA and Canada both come out with the intent on winning. It will make a great game. If USA wins, hooray for us! If Canada wins, hooray for you!

As far as the beer and cigars on the ice thing, it's a non-story. Just the media creating a controversy where there is none.
