Case or Gigbag Poll.....

I think it's a question of security in my mind. If my case were to accidentally drop from a distance I can't fathom what would happen with a gigbag. I think us diehard HSC'ers are looking at the worst case scenario. Probably since when us older dudes started playing (1977 for me) they did not not make gigbags. Old habits die hard.

Well, I will only speak for the Dub Bag this one last time:

Both. Sometimes I find it more practical to use the gigbag, and other times I choose the case. The bag fits alot more stuff, so that's great for when I need to bike to a rehearsal. At gigs I always use the case. Oh, and when trawelling, the case is the only option.

I respect my instruments and only use gig bags. They're very ez to keep close by & more practical for the on-the-go musician. In fact, using a bag forces me to treat my instrument w/greater care as opposed to throwing a hardshell case in the back of the van. My hardshell cases collect dust in my closet.

And the look is way coolor than the dork struttin down the street w/a hardshell case. Roadies lug hardshell cases, Musicians use gig bags!!

Jack do you use one of these? Looks like a very well built gigbag. The deflection shell looks like it would work well. One disturbing comment in the strap pin protection link:

"...Minimizes damage to strap pin at the base of guitar."

Minimizes damage? That comment alone makes me want to stay with HSC.

Theres good gig bags, and theres good hard cases..

Warwick rock bags are 40 dollars and are great, but i still wouldn't use one, the dub bags are nice, but heavy and bulky, to the point where a case would be cheaper and lighter, however the dub bag carries more crap than a case.


but really it's this:

I had a guitar snap in half because of a gig bag, and I had a hard case fly down a flight of concrete steps and be no worse for wear.

it's all opinion, and the opinion is that hard cases are important to a working musician. by working i mean someone in the grunt of things playing the small clubs and whatnot. To whoever mentioned that all this "big names" are using leather gig bags, good for them. They probably don't touch their basses until it's time for the show, and they don't run the risk of some drunk assclown falling over on your instrument and breaking it in the gig bag. If i had a actual backstage area where only I and select few others could go, at each show, i'd probably use a gig bag for sheer convenience. But i don't, so a case it is for me.
