The consumer base is not represented here or t*** b***...the diehards. The cayenne pepper. If I had to rely on them I would be better off with a hot dog stand.

I'm quoting BP from another thread (that shall remain nameless), and initially I was offended that I was not considered the customer base. Then I finally got it and I've been thinking all day about how clever this description was. I'm sure this doesn't need explanation, but I'm gonna do it anyway (as concise as possible) because I have an ulterior motive.

Obviously, BP is a chef. Cayenne pepper is a potent spice that adds flavor and kick to a dish. It is a small portion (somewhere between dash and tablespoon) of the dish; a little goes a long way, but you wouldn't want to eat cayenne pepper by itself. As you eat the dish, you might not realize the spice is there, but if you take it out, you realize that the dish wasn't quite as good without it. However, you can still get full on the dish, even if the spice is not there. That's as concise as I can get it, and some of you know how long-winded I can be.

I once had a $7,000+ custom car stereo installation done, and I surmised that the store owner loved the kind of business I brought him; I was wrong. He explained to me that in the month my car was taking up an installation bay and hogging his top installer and two helpers, they can make twice that on what they call "deck and two" or "deck and four" installations that take no time at all. It's the same for EBMM; the guys that walk into GC, buy a black 'Ray and are never heard from again are the customer base.

OK- ulterior motive time. I am so taken by my new association with cayenne pepper that my Classic Collection 'Ray will be named Cayenne if BP will let me order it as pictured (thanks JOSH for the Photoshopping). Brandt will be sending the magic elves to NAMM to place my 40th birthday order (okay, so the 25th BFR is my birthday present; I'm ordering Cayenne as a birthday celebration!) January 22 ya'll - it's the big day!

If you thought that was clever work the "heart of the watermelon" quote from his blog out...

Nice catch, Colin. Yeah, I'm stumped on that one for now; I will devote today's thought to watermelon hearts. BP calls them "streams of consciousness"; this one was bordering on subconsciousness (or unconsciousness). I say that, then the light bulb will go off and I'll find my self sitting on a curb somewhere just shaking my head.

There's an idea for a potential future LE series.

A finish called Cayenne Pepper, only offered to forumites. Maybe with hot chili inlays to pick up on the BP BBQ theme.

Okay, there it is. My one and only unasked-for suggestion for the second decade of the 21st century.

I sort of liked that my lifes work was buzz worded into a piece of furniture....Is tom selling his classic?

I liked that one, too; but, I got that one. A buzz word/phrase is frequently a euphanism for something either terrible or stupid. Notice they don't come right out and say explicitly, "WE WANT TO take some OF YOUR money off (YOUR) the table FOR OURSELVES."

I'm beginning to dissect the watermelon- If making money is the end game, then get in, strip mine the best parts of your resource, and get out as quickly as possible. The heart is where the flavor is; savor the flavor. Share it with someone, make a new dessert with it. No one wants to eat near the rind where the melon is sour, but the rind protects the heart- it's vital. The seeds are always in the heart; you have to dig around carefully to save as much heart as possible. Sow the seeds properly and you can grow more melons. I don't think I'm quite through fleshing this one out...

No, tom is NOT selling his classic- I was being chided a bit I think.

euphanism

I had to look that one up. I guess you meant:

euphemism |ˈyoōfəˌmizəm|
noun

a mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing : “downsizing” as a euphemism for cuts. The opposite of dysphemism .
ORIGIN late 16th cent.: from Greek euphēmismos, from euphēmizein ‘use auspicious words,’ from eu ‘well’ + phēmē ‘speaking.’

Yes, he is, check the for sale ads, and TB.

wow I thought he was in love with it

I am and then some! I HATE to sell it more than any other bass I have ever had but I simply HAVE to have 5 strings. I got a little heat over my last couple of gigs from the guys that are missing the B in a lot of places. We play a little bit of everything and I am missing the 5 th string in more spots than I want to admit. My band owner called me the other night and just came out and told me that he needed me to play 5's even though he had initially been all for me playing what I wanted to play. I lost a total of 86 basses in 2 separate fires over the last 25 years including some serious vintage instruments. That is not mention a bunch of high end recording gear and numerous old vintage amps. The first one was a music store that my brother in law opened in Virginia Beach. I loaned him 61 basses and guitars (the bulk of my family's collection dating from the late 20's!!) and several vintage amplifiers. It was located in a strip mall and one of the units in the mall caught fire and essentially destroyed the entire Strip mall. Then a few years ago I lost nearly all of my vintage recording gear and the remainder of my gear collection in a rehearsal building/Studio I had about 45 minutes away from my home. That was an auto body shop with a paint booth on the other end of the building it was in and the paint shop caught fire and the whole building burned to the ground. It got so hot that it melted the strings on the basses and the ashtray on my 62 Jazz was a puddle of metal...

As a result I just don't keep anything I can't use now. I have made it a rule that when one comes in one goes out and I am limiting myself to having 2 basses only. 1 Primary and 1 Backup. I also went through a divorce and had to give up most of my cash in the process...(that should not be a surpirse to anyone!) So it is not as financially feasible for me to tie up but so much cash in things that are just sitting and not earning me money anymore. I am currently living in a pretty small house that is FULL of my lady's jewelry and the tools she uses to make and show cases and etc etc etc...In other words I have one half of a closet and she has the rest of the house....I store empty cases under the bed along with my shoes...LOL!

Anyone that wants to donate a 9 to 9.5 lb 20th Anniversary SR5 H in a Maple board/Matching headstock will most assuredly save me the pain of the remorse I most assuredly will have as soon as I leave the classic at the shippers!! I wish it were possible to keep her but I do not see how that is possible right now...

Fortunately I know that no matter what Ball I have I know it will be excellent! Thanks for that!

Peace,

T
