Changing string gauge on my MM JP6

<div class="bbWrapper">I&#039;ve had my MM JP 6 for about 2 weeks and I want to change the string gauge from the 10-46 that it came with to 9-46. This is my first guitar with a floating trem and I not totally sure what I will need to adjust. I think that I&#039;ll need to adjust the trem so that it floats neutral/parallel to the body, and check the intonation and adjust as needed. My question is how do I do what I need to do(adjust trem...etc.)?<br /> <br /> <br /> I know I could always take it and have a someone do this for me, but I wan&#039;t to try to do it myself.<br /> <br /> Oh, and one more question. How can I lower the action?</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Wow. That&#039;s a loaded question. If you attempt to do it yourself, there are a lot of things that can go wron if you don&#039;t know exactly what you are doing (speaks from past experience). <br /> <br /> My advice: Find someone who knows how to do it and have them show you how to do it so you can try it yourself later. If you can&#039;t find someone to show you, take it to where you bought it. if they have any sense of customer service, they should help you out on this one.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">I can&#039;t imagine it being too tough ... ? Unless there&#039;s something about the JP I&#039;m not aware of. I&#039;d think you would need to adjust the springs on the trem (increase the tension) until it sits where it did with the .10&#039;s. Other than that, you likely wouldn&#039;t even need to do much with the intonation.<br /> <br /> Having said that .. if any of the above seem difficult or confusing, you&#039;d probably bet better of getting someone to show you how to do it.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">I will be undertaking a similar thing with my JP6 in the near future. I have been playing it with Regular Slinky&#039;s, but I&#039;m dying to put some Super Slinky&#039;s on it. As soon as I use up my supply of Regulars, I&#039;ll be making the switch.<br /> <br /> My understanding is that it takes a little more effort to get the trem leveled with 9&#039;s on that guitar. That will probably be the major hurdle.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">NONONONO 10&#039;s all the way people, they sound so much better, 9&#039;s are for wimps lol! jk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!</div>

Putting 9&#039;s on my JP6 was the best decision I made (well...next to buying the JP6 in the first place). I didn&#039;t like the sound of the 10s...no life, not crisp enough. The 9&#039;s added just enough high end to bring the sound to life for me. Plus they play MUCH easier. I won&#039;t ever go back....<br /> <br /> MikeVt</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">I recently switched to 9&#039;s from 10&#039;s after about 40 years of playing nothing but 10&#039;s. I will not be going back either.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">I switched to 9-46 on my JP. I had to adjust the spring claw a bit, but to my surprise, I didn&#039;t have to adjust the intonation, so it was a pretty easy switch.</div>
