Changing string gauge on my MM JP6

I've had my MM JP 6 for about 2 weeks and I want to change the string gauge from the 10-46 that it came with to 9-46. This is my first guitar with a floating trem and I not totally sure what I will need to adjust. I think that I'll need to adjust the trem so that it floats neutral/parallel to the body, and check the intonation and adjust as needed. My question is how do I do what I need to do(adjust trem...etc.)?

I know I could always take it and have a someone do this for me, but I wan't to try to do it myself.

Oh, and one more question. How can I lower the action?

Wow. That's a loaded question. If you attempt to do it yourself, there are a lot of things that can go wron if you don't know exactly what you are doing (speaks from past experience).

My advice: Find someone who knows how to do it and have them show you how to do it so you can try it yourself later. If you can't find someone to show you, take it to where you bought it. if they have any sense of customer service, they should help you out on this one.

I can't imagine it being too tough ... ? Unless there's something about the JP I'm not aware of. I'd think you would need to adjust the springs on the trem (increase the tension) until it sits where it did with the .10's. Other than that, you likely wouldn't even need to do much with the intonation.

Having said that .. if any of the above seem difficult or confusing, you'd probably bet better of getting someone to show you how to do it.

I will be undertaking a similar thing with my JP6 in the near future. I have been playing it with Regular Slinky's, but I'm dying to put some Super Slinky's on it. As soon as I use up my supply of Regulars, I'll be making the switch.

My understanding is that it takes a little more effort to get the trem leveled with 9's on that guitar. That will probably be the major hurdle.

NONONONO 10's all the way people, they sound so much better, 9's are for wimps lol! jk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you were kidding - but I beg to differ anyway. Putting 9's on my JP6 was the best decision I made (well...next to buying the JP6 in the first place). I didn't like the sound of the 10s...no life, not crisp enough. The 9's added just enough high end to bring the sound to life for me. Plus they play MUCH easier. I won't ever go back....

I recently switched to 9's from 10's after about 40 years of playing nothing but 10's. I will not be going back either.

I switched to 9-46 on my JP. I had to adjust the spring claw a bit, but to my surprise, I didn't have to adjust the intonation, so it was a pretty easy switch.

I have 9's on my Mystic Dream, 10's on the Rad Red, and well.....ahem......I had.....ah, yeah......11's on the Pearl Redburst, but nothing there now.....don't have a neck to put them on...... :(
