Hey Guru's,

Hi everyone this is my first post ! I recently bought a second hand MM Sterling - translucent orange - man i love this thing !

It is in great shape except for one small chip in the body - its not very big but deep enough to go into the hardwood. I know i'm being picky, but i was wondering if this sucker can be repaired - like can you get the orange stain and lacquer etc or is it not worth it ??? Maybe i could post a photo ?

Anyway any thoughts or comments would be appreciated !

Thanks in advance,

Hello and welcome.:)

Yes, maybe you should post a picture?

Personally, if it's small I'd just let it go and consider it to be what we know as mojo.;)

People have very different opinions on this issue though. Some think a relic is the coolest thing on earth. Others get really upset over hairline finish cracks in the neck-pocket.

The way I see it is as it is a musical instrument that is made to be played and used, it won't stay pristine forever. I like it when the bass show some "evidence of a life lived".

If it's only cosmetic and doesn't interfere with the integrity of the instrument I wouldn't bother doing anything. My opinion.

No-- sorry -- it is beyond repair. I will take it off your hands as a favor - a great sacrifice on my part, for a mere 50 bucks - justto cover shipping costs.

Generally i totally agree - but in this instance, i dont know why maybe because the rest of the bass is immaculate (the finish is amazing) i feel like i gotta patch this sucker up somehow !! Maybe if i'd chipped it myself during a show then it would be acceptable 'mojo'.

Beth, i think you may be onto it - yeah some high gloss clear nail polish and some orange underneath sounds like it would work !

Does anyone know what type of orange it is (ie does it have a commercial name?)

When it rains, it pours... story of my life. But hey, it builds character, right? One important thing: do NOT sell any MM's... you'll regret it later...

I'm not pulling your chain. I've heard that at least the red one works for Trans Red, and it has been esteemed that the orange one works for Trans Orange. However, I wouldn't saturate the wood with the marker ink, rather just lightly brush it on. Jongitarz or anyone in repairs/engineering/CS feel free to throw the book at me on this one if I'm wrong. The last thing I'd want to do is give bad information and have you ruin your bass because of me.
