Hey everyone long time lurker and finally pulling the plug and picking up my first EBMM! Question is which one.... I have the option of getting an Axis Rosewood with a Floyd Rose "which I'd block cause I'm not a fan" and an Axis Super Sport with the vintage trem.

I'm leaning towards the SS as it has a 5 way as I want alot of versatility but the regular Axis is a Rosewood and I heard nothing but good things. Can anyone help me out! :)

Tough call. I love the Floyd and the Rosewood necks are sweet. But...

You nailed it with the ASS and all the different pick up selections.

If you would 'block' the Floyd, I would go with the ASS. There is nothing but good things about the maple boards as well.

There are Rosewood axis' in the For Sale thread I am sure.

There is absolutely NO need to block the Floyd on an Axis.

The only thing I'm not crazy about on the SS is the top is natural finish with rosewood board. I'm a maple kinda guy and the other finishes look sooooo much nicer in my opinion. The rosewood is very nice looking but then I'm having to change the pots and do extra work which I kind of want to get away from as I'm a compulsive tinkerer.

I think you would be better off with a stop tail. If you are not crazy about Floyds why go through the headache of string changes and you probably play with your palm resying on the bridge most of the time which feels a bit strange with the height of the Floyd at first. I also may be totally off base with my assumptions to though. But there are a lot of wicked looking stoptail models to choose from.

First of all: Welcome aboard!

Sounds like they both aren't meant for you...if you don't like the Floyd stay away from it, blocking it doesn't seem like the best choice.
As for the ASS...if it doesn't appeal to you...there are plenty more fish in the sea! Shouldn't be too hard finding one that you really like. Take a look at the "for sale" sticky, maybe you can find one there...

I concur with straycat, you'd probably be best off with a hardtail. IMO the vintage trem is nothing to worry about either even if you prefer a fixed bridge...

I'll echo the other folks here in saying keep looking. There's one out there to fit you. Of course, you can't go wrong with any of them. :D

I was a devout rosewood board guy before I got my Axis, and I've bonded very nicely with the maple neck. Still don't like maple boards on other guitars, but I love the EBMM maple.

I'm going hard tail or sure. I have hated every Floyd I've had in the past and I need to look further than the GAS and make a smarter decision. I'll try to hold off on the SS with the natural finish, I'm in Canada so to order from the States I get hammered in extra charges so I need to buy locally.

Thanks for all the input so far and if anyone has 2 cents to throw in I'll take it!! Great board and advice guys thanks a tonne :)

Choices, Choices......UPDATED

Alright guys a few options just opened up for me. Found a few more EBMM for sale that I'll need some of your knowledge for. First off the Axis RR is off the list for sure do to the floyd and I really dont want to have to operate on yet another guitar.

So its an Axis SS "only fault is the natural finish with rosewood fretboard"
Next is a Silo HSH which is very nive but I'm concerned the buckers wont be powerful enough to give some nice crunch and OD. And finally is a Luke which has EMGS "no experience with them" and the V neck which I've never tried but heard its a love or hate thing.

They are located in non ideal areas for me to travel so for me to just try em out is not gonna happen unfortunately. I play classic rock, hard rock, some metal but very very little, Beatles and other oldies and starting to get into jazz and chord melodies. So which of the 3 should I really focus in on :) Any help is mucho appreciated, thanks guys.

I understand GAS as well as anyone (and have the arguments with my wife to prove it) but I would say that you gotta keep looking. The ASS is an amazing instrument and you should be able to find one that suits you that you're in love with. It does take some work and it's hard with the money burning a hole in your pocket but the payoff is so worth it.

Honestly the LUKE would probably suit everything that you described. It can go from Jazz to Metal pretty much. Patiently waiting for mine :D. But again, it really depends on what will work for you. The Silo is great too, and throwing in some hotter PUPs will do the trick for the heavier stuff.

I hate GASin!!!!! Looks like I sold my Deluxe Tele so I can afford right now a mint Luke "used" a new Axis SS "but natural finish :(" and the Silo I was looking at is gone. I'm gonna try to hold off an the Axis to get the colour I want period. Thanks for calming that burning pocket down a bit for me guys! I'll have to look into the Luke a little more as a V neck and EMG's may not be what I'm looking for or I may just try to even grab a Morse or something if it comes my way.

One way or another an EBMM is in my future which one who the hell knows but I'll be sure to post pics and info when I get her. Sorry for all the questions and such you all have been a huge help. It'll be better to wait till I find the right one and have no guitar for a a bit then go through this again.

Keep your votes and info coming in its greatly appreciated!
