I have been toying with the idea of playing a 5 stringer for a while but never really found a bass that fits me. I was in GC the other day looking at 5 string basses just to get my feet wet and the sales rep brought me a beautiful tobacco burst stingray classic 5 just because it had a crazy awesome birds eye maple neck. Out of 10 basses I tried the other day it was the only 5 string to really make me smile. Easy to play, tight B-string, the right tone and so forth. Even compared to the Stingray 5, the classic series 5 fit me better. If I wasn't dumb enough to rationalize that I cannot afford that bass at this time and I have 3 other stingrays, I would have walked out of GC with that thing.;)

Now time will tell whether I manage to buy a Classic Stingray 5. Now I don't exactly need one (with 3 other basses on hand that work just fine) but it'd be nice to have:p

I'm seriously considering to order one after summer vacation! :)

All depends how much money will left on my account after just running house interior redecoration! :D

...and yes, Classic Stingray 5 - NICE!!!

Wait a sec-- They have a Classic 5 string at the Atlanta GC? Aw, crap. That's dangerous. I need to go and check it out.

I'm a four banger at heart, but the Classic 5 I played yesterday (@ GC in Paramus, NJ) was a really nice bass. Played, sounded and looked great.

Pictures don't even begin to do the figuring on these necks justice.

I agree with Jackie, you need a 5 to round out your brace of Stingrays. You never know when life might throw you a low C# so it's best to be ready.

...No thanks, I'm a JAVA man myself. :D

Me: "Born to code in C++" ;-)

Back on topic... I like the pickguard of the classic. I'm personally not a big fan of the Stingray 5 pickguard shape (well, depends on color combi). If i had to choose a SR 5 then it would be a Classic or a 20th.

Yep - both the one on route 4 and the one on route 17 (RIP Victors) had a couple in stock. The one on route 4 has a much better amp selection, though.

Cool! :D

Thanks for the TIP! I might be heading down that way for July 4th weekend. I REALLY want to check one of the Classic 5's out.

Where in Orange County NY are you located?

I will be getting 1 of these by the end of the summer. It's just a great all around bass, and the construction is 2nd to none.
