Ok. So now I´ve pimped some of my basses. Sorry for bad pics but I do find it almost impossible to take pics of instruments.... Lots of reflections and ****. And I don´t have a photo studio...... :(

Looks alot better IRL, let me tell you....

A 30th Anniversary looks GREAT without a pickguard but then there is the problem with the screw holes. But this is close enough and I do like it. I also got a clear pickguard for my rather "regular" orange Stingray with matching headstock. Again, it looks SO much better IRL.

I usually don´t really care alot about messing about with instruments but I could not help myself this time...... And it did not cost that much. I´ll keep them like this for awhile. One can always redo it and put the old pickguards back on again.....

Sincerely//Jan

Real, Real, Real nice.
My Sterling had a stock white guard, no problem with it at all. I just opted to add a clear guard just to feature the full effect of the outstanding grain of the Ash body, I really love the look. I doubt I will go back to any other colored guard on this bass for awhile.
Enjoy

I´m mad. Another Stingray in the family. And it´s NOT Dweezil Zappa´s silver sparkle that was up on eBay a short while ago.....

Took about 2 minutes after the bass was delivered until I had put a clear pick-guard on.

Sorry but without sounding stooooopid, and please remember I live on in a glass box called a cargo ship, which means I am not exactly Mr. "Current Affairs"... but does the 30th anniversary SR5 not have a pickup selector switch? I have only just noticed on that body the missing switch, is it all done via the 4 knobs?

Thanks for clarifying.

Yeap, all SR4 H's don't have pup selectors, frankly it's the way i like it as well :)

P.s. Hellboy nice score, I guess I would like it more if black was placed on there, offers a bit of contrast

I have a clear pick guard on all my EBMM Bongos, and StingRays basses. So my vote is CLEAR :)

No pics, no clear pick guards on Bongos and Stingrays!!! ;)

Same here. I have either no pg at all on the 20th anni 5-string Stingrays or clear pg on everything else except my 20th anni 4-string since the pg is glued on. I do like it alot. Looks great. Good fun. You and I could form a club. :)

Erm... there is no 30th Anniversary SR5... you're nine years too early!. This is a 30th Anniversary SR4. Perhaps you've got confused with the 20th Anniversary SR5 which does indeed have the selector switch in multiple pup configs.
The lack of a string on the guitar in the photo might have been a giveaway!;)

Foam rubber. I walked into a place that makes mattresses and cushions and they gave me left-over materials, different types of foam rubber, for free. I tried different types and experimented abit to find out what type and how much foam rubber that sounded the best. The hard thing was not to get the sound I wanted but to use the right amount and not too hard foam rubber so that the instrument would get impossible to intonate. You don´t want the foam rubber to become a new bridge saddle, if you know what I mean. The foam must be soft enough so it just dampens the string without shortening the lengh of the string.......

The foam rubber will change the pitch of the string and this has been a problem for me live. So I got a bass just for this purpose. Rigged with foam so I just could switch bass instead of putting dampening material under the strings and retuning the thing during concerts. Took too long time and artists tended to stare at me with a peculiar and a stressful look in their eyes.

I've done some experimenting as well-- too bad 'clear' foam is not available to match the pickguard. ;)
