I just received a set from Amazon this afternoon immediately put them on. After reading the reviews I have to agree that they definitely sound very good. I'd been using elixir poly web 10s and the sound was fairly bland at best. My problem is that they feel absolutely horrible. The only way I can describe it is dry and almost like they are corroded (only on the wound strings). The feel as if they've been sitting on the guitar for years. Based on the reviews this shouldn't be the case. I'd also like to add that I'm not a string snob and generally never had a problem like this with new strings in the 18 years I've been playing. I thinking I some how managed to receive a bad set and an going to order another set but I just wanted to see if this is some how a common question.

not sure what's going on or what you're saying in the post. Are you describing Elixir??

Here's a quick solution - All I can suggest is get an EBMM guitar (say the Luke), string it up with some #2253 and you'll never look back - guaranteed.

Welcome to the forum, Hal3001!

The windings on the wound strings are a fraction bigger than the windings on regular EB strings. That means that at first they feel a little rougher under the fingers. My guess is that this is what you re noticing. I didn't like it at first but after a day or two suddenly I got used to it. Once I did, they were the most comfortable strings I've ever played. The slightly lower tension on the wound strings was a lot of fun.

Here's the review I wrote.

And BTW, if you decide that Cobalts are not for you, you should try the EB Coated Slinkys.

Cool. I'll give them another couple of days before buying a new set of them. Maybe I just need to break them in. I really love the way they sound. It definitely adds a bit more personality to my PRS but the only way I can describe they way they currently feel to me is like a set of corroded strings that have been on a guitar sitting out in the open for a few years. I may also try to find a local shop that might have these on a demo guitar to compare what the set I have feels like.

I too thought that the Cobalts weren't as "buttery" as everyone else described at first. Good advice to give it a while to let your fingers adjust. Needless to say I'm very happy now with the cobalts.
