I have some that aren't going anywhere and I scuff 'em up. Others I know I'll sell and try and keep them in good shape.

My Morse has had the neck carved, body routed for a battery compartment and I dropped my dremel on the back so it has a nice scar. Couldn't care less, it's my desert island guitar and is not going anywhere. I'm about to route my pinkburst Albert for a battery compartment too. **** it, they're not for sale.
i've saw a few pics of Steve Morse's original EBMM and it's beautiful because it's so used... thats when the vibe really kicks in..:D also Lukes old black sparkle....

Great posts from all of the members. Mine is straight and clean. I have a ding in the headstock that is a non issue now. I play it everyday and change strings and clean once a month or so. It is a life long partner.

And I thought my lady is the only one who doesn´t understand me:eek:

Ok. I just wanted to state that mine are not in mint condition cause I need them live. They have over 200 gigs on them at least, the silo a bit more.

And I just wanted to add that there is no other reason for me to keep them mint (what you can´t do with a live guitar even how hard you try) until I need to sell the guitar
for monetary reasons and if this is the case the money difference between a mint or a used guitar is not important.

I hope this explains it:(

Admittedly mine's only a couple of months old at this point, but it gets treated like a baby. If it's not in my hands being played, it's in the case. I'm obsessive about washing my hands every time before I play it because I don't want that grungy, dirty looking maple fingerboard I see on so many guitars. I don't want a scratch on it. Not only have I not removed the plastic from the electronics covers, but I still have the little film with the bar code on the back of it. Is that a little too obsessive? :D

It's a real change for me. I'm used to having pawn shop beaters that I throw around any old way.

My balls are in real sorry shape.... I have my urologist on speed dial. :(

Oh, are you talking about my guitars? Those are fine. ;)

Note, I am actually not kidding about the urologist bit. One word of warning, for some men vasectomies can result in chronic pain. I was one of the unlucky ones. I don't know why I decided to share that right now, but there it is. My advice is treat the balls God gave you even better than the ones you bought at Guitar Center.

My No1 (Purple Axis) is a bit dinged up.
It was 5 years old when I got my hands on it and it had all the usual swirl marks in the finish plus the odd ding.
Not long after I got it I made the fatal error of taking all of the strings off at once. The string tension pulled the trem off of the posts and into the body, so there's some push dents in behind the bridge where the Floyd hit the body.
Also mine's got a recessed neck plate and there's a chip of paint that came off there.
But like Beej said **** it I'm never going to sell it, It was a wedding present from my gorgeous wife.
I've had some financial ups and downs lately, pretty much everything else is a shifting sand but that Axis, and the Omega Seamaster that she gave me as an engagement present will be with me until the very very end.:D

Mine came with a few dents and scratches. I stopped buying new guitars so I wouldn't have to worry about putting that first scratch on them. I have a 9 year old guitar from another manufacturer that I purchased new that rarely sees the light of day because I am afraid of scratching it, which is too bad because it sounds and looks great. I have no problem putting the second or thrid dent or scratch on a guitar.

My '99 axis is much the same. Verrrrry well used and gigged along with my, cough, umm...tele......theres a decent sized gouge/scrape on the back edge close to where your arm goes...and the maple board nearly looks like rosewood, well....not that dark, but pretty damn close....and i guess it has a bit of duct tape residue by the strap pin for a thing i had to hold my cable away, as well as a battery pack for soemthing or other.... In a nutshell, it's a verry well loved guitar lol. cool thread by the way

JP6 - As mint as it can be while being regularily played.
JP7 - Chips, scratches, pick marks.

Don't care, as long as it sounds good and feels playable :D

To add onto what I said earlier.. I've been known to do crazy things with my guitars.

I once played a huge solo during a show.. and threw my guitar across the stage. A purely impulsive move and people loved it.

It wasn't an EB, and I don't think I could ever do that with an EB.. but I did it.

P.S., it was a Fender.. and my number one for a few years. One of the few Fenders I've ever loved(I've owned 3, hated one, loved the other two.). It was still in tune, too and came out with only a small gouge on the back side of the body. It has since acquired many scratches and dents.

I vaccum pack my instruments to avoid freezer burn.

The Sub is pristine, except for some VERY slight chaffing on the headstock. But then again, Sub's are damn near bullet-proof.

The Silo has definitely been someone's guitar of choice, and it shows. It isn't in bad condition at all though, on a scale of poor to mint, I'd rate it at good condion. A few nicks on the back where the head of a patch cord gouged it, plenty of buckle rash, and some chips on the headstock. Also, I think it needs a little maintenance somewhere between the bridge and the tuners, but no biggy. The thing is beautiful though, and it has the most amazing slab of rosewood I've ever seen :D

yeah I saw that... first damage is a bummer.. but now you can quit worrying about it.. play that guitar and play it in.... I love old guitars that feel great.... I have a friend who has gigged his Luke about 5 times a week for 11 years... it's been refretted 4 times and it's amazing.... it's just got mojo now that only comes from time and use.... it's got battle scars here and there but it's fantastic....

Yeah, you're right.
The first one hurts the most, and like I said in my thread, now my Luke is really starting to be mine :D
Considering the fact, that other people pay a fortune for a new guitar that looks like it's been used for 200 years, it is much cheaper to apply the damages to your instrument yourself ;)
