Considering the "pimp" job???

Jon,
So when you seal guitars that just came of production line, do you first finish standard then seal it or do you just straight seal the guitar before any finish/oil/was are applied?

Is there a difference in guitar that are first standard finished then sealed versus guitar that are sealed as they are being manufactured?

My guitar might ship out today or Monday. If I request it to be sealed, how long do I have to wait?

Ok...First I do not seal production guitar necks. As I said before, it is not an option on production instruments. When I do seal a neck, I sand it first and clean it with acetone to remove the oil and wax.

If I were you, I would wait and see before you consider having your neck sealed. The oil and wax does seal the neck very nicely, and if you don't need it, why pay for shipping, the labor costs etc if you don't have to?

When I said my guitar will ship out today, I ment that It is still at EBMM. I was told that my order was complete and ready to go out today. So I wouldn't have to worry about shipping cost since it's already there. But I guess I should wait and see how my neck turned out. Is the price $40 to get sealed?

Yes it is $40.00 but as I said it is NOT available for production guitars. You probably will not need to have it sealed anyway. Trust me, if the oil and wax was not a GREAT way to treat the necks, we would not do them that way. This whole thing is getting blown out of proportion. Our necks are AWESOME. The feel, the stability, the whole freakin enchilada. There are on occasion some necks that are less stable than others. I think you are worrying WAY too much WAY to early. You don't even have your guitar yet!

Wait until you get your guitar, give it 6 months or so, see how you like it.(I'm guessing you won't want to send it in, because it will not be needed)

I am about ready to close this thread as people are not understanding that sealing is only a way to stop a few necks from being unstable. We ship hundreds of guitars a month and the necks are rock solid.

I will say this...the seal Jon does (as I have stated by playing OC's axe) is a cool feature. However, as much as I would like to have Jon do this for me, I just absolutely love the production finish on mine. I might send one of mine to him (if it's cool with him ) to have it done. My necks tend to go out of whach due to where I live. Virginia Beach is murder on guitars in general due to the freaky weather here. But, my Rad Red JP was touched by the guitar gods and I will leave that one alone. Simply put, try it, you might (or should I say WILL) love the production finish......

Don't worry fred. I got mine done when OC told me about it. I'm sure he felt the same way when I made a big-ass stink about it. Then, I got it back, loved it and raved about it. So I know where you're coming from.

I just ordered the oil and was for my project guitar and for maintenance on the Pet.

I turn 40 this coming January and will be getting a new ax. I was looking at a Carvin CT6 but they only have 22 frets so I think I'm going to get either a Luke or another Pet w/ Piezo.

Same here. Baltimore's weather is really screwy, which is why I wanted to get mine done.

I just feel bad about getting things going to the point where Jon feels he needs to shut down a thread that I started.

This is the point I was trying to make with songman. Our necks rarely need to be sealed. The oil and wax finish is great.

No worries...Saul Goodman...I was going to tell you...if you're in Carle Place bro, the new Dick's where Galyan's used to be in Roosevelt Field has both the oil and the wax in stock...I just got a 2nd bottle of each there last week....works awesome. Let me know when you finish that axe I'd love to check it out...

Well, after a conversation with Dan M and some serious thinking, I have decided to send my JP6 back for a minor repair and the 'job'. Given the fact that I am always adjusting the truss rods on my finished neck guitars (large humidity swings here in the northeast) and it can take me days of tweaking to get each one right, I really felt that anything that might minimize the required adjustments on my JP would be good for my sanity.

I really hope you don't mind, Jon. It's supposed to get there early next week...please let me know if this will be a problem.
