Okay gentlemen, so let's pretend that somebody I know has decided it's time to purchase one of those single H Bonger dealies and had a few questions.

Now then, firstly, somebody mentioned that if you grab the Piezo option on a Single H Bongo it makes the bass four band. Now does that mean four band as in Bass Mid Treb and Piezo?

Or does it mean Piezo, Plus Bass High Mid/Low Mid Treble? I'm not sure if this seems like a silly question, to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if by grabbing the piezo option they split up the mids.

Also, for those of you that have experienced the Singe H Bongos. If one were to play right by the bridge, would it be possible to get a sound that resembles the type of sound you'd get by playing on a HH or HS?

I'm talking about the pickup placement being moved up. Does that cut out that crazy aggressive jazzy bite that the HH has all together or does it just mean more manuvering? I've managed to get a nice flurry of sounds from my 'Ray and believe finger placement always makes a Huge difference, but I know that there's still limits.

Grateful as always

IIRC, of you get piezo on a Single H Bongo, youll have low, high mid, low mid, treble, plus a blend knob for magnetic to piezo.

Plucking hand technique will vary the Single H tone, but the eq makes it more versatile than one would think for a single pickup bass.

Sounds right up my ally. As the only Single Hp guy on the board, I am undeniably the expert at this time. I can answer your question with one pic.

Knobs are
1. Volume
2. Mag/Piezo blend
and here's the fun part
3. Stacked high mid/low mid
4. Stacked treble/Bass

Also keep in mine that the Single H Bongo has the pickup in the same position as your Stingray/Sterling/SR5 and is therefore subject to all the same types of technique variable tone changes, at least in my opinion.

I thought the pickup was not in the same place, it is closer to the neck?

Compared to the two pickup Bongo's yes, but the Single H is right there with the Stingray. It doesn't immediately look that way at first because of the different body shapes and pickguards.

From exp the 3 band H preamp isn't a slouch either... nice, simple, and d@mn effective. Point and shoot. It all depends on what your sonic needs and preferences are. I like the idea of the P, but I am in NO WAY missing it either (when I order my fretless I will get a p... but when I order my next 5H it will be without because I don't need it tonaly).

Now< I don't want to start anything here, but the rear pickup on my Bongo HH IS, closer to the bridge by my estimation, 1 inch, as compared to the Bongo H that I am waiting for.

Side by side pics of a H Bongo and an HH bongo, easily show this. A singal Bongo H pup is not in the same position as an HH. If you look at the pics of a singal H pup, you can see it being almost even with the volume and treble controls.

Look at the H bongo above. See how the pup is almost even with the volume and blend controls. Look how far from the bridge it is. Much further away than an HH Bongo.

I'm a bit confused. I thought we are all in agreement.

Bongo H in EBMM sweetspot.
Bongo HH & HSC, bridge pickup closer to bridge.
SR4&5, Sterling H in EBMM sweetspot
SR4&5, Sterling HH & HSC, bridge p/u still in EBMM sweetspot.

Yes?

Ive owned one of each Bongo pup config. The Single H is in a different spot than the rear pup on a HH or H/SC.

The Single H Bongo really is a different creature. To me theres just a different sound in that Single H. One I miss, and cant live without for too much longer.

See pics for reference:

Perfect!! Thanks Travis...from the way I read the initial post..it's confusing, stating both basses rear pups are the same and will sound the same. But there was talk of a Sterling also.

Tom summed it up pretty good here:

Tom was spot on. I was merely trying to give a visual example.

It's all good.

I think there was confusion abounding on which models were being discussed (SR/Sterling vs. Bongo)

Paul & Travis: Thanks for the kind words.
