I'm seriously tempted by the Einstein head - although I've got more than enough amps and definitely shouldn't buy it unless it is the greatest thing ever. Anyone got/tried/heard one? Preferably with an Axis playing through it!

I've played my Axis through the VH4S many times. Even blew one. They sound awesome. I'd love to hear the one you are talking about.

I played the Einstein 50 watt head, was amazing - theres a studio here in NY thas has a few of them, Diezel stuff is great, they really dont make anything that sucks, but I like 2 channel heads and I like 50 watt heads so it was right up my alley - if you can afford it then grab it you will love it - what kind of music do you play?

Mainly "classic rock" and 80s metal I suppose. Not nu-metal or thrash. So the Einstein looks better than the Herbert.

Also tried the Einstein 50watter head once in a shop. Great sound and I just wished the three sond options on the first channel were footswitchable, too...
There are a lot of sound samples on Diezel's site that IMHO reproduce the sound & feel quite well.
The 50 watts Einstein is already f*ckin' loud and I can't imagine what the 100 watter would be like... OMG !!!

I've been the proud owner of a VH-4s for... hmm... around 4 years now - and it is simply the best amp I've ever tried!
The Einstein is an amazing piece of kit as well - especially if you are into the possibilities and limitations of the 2-channel concept. I was really tempted to get an Einstein to compliment my VH-4s, but realised that I switch channels way too often and have become so familiar with the VH-4s that everything else sounds slightly wrong... If you can find the cash, go Diezel - you won't be disappointed!

Best kept secret is the Powertone II: Koch Amps - amps with an attitube. Their amps allow you to sound like you, which is slowly becoming a rarity with amp manufacturers these days. From stellar cleans to outright hellish crunch and anything in between, their amps rock!. I've played both Diezels & Kochs and in my opinion, the Koch out diezels the Diezel. And their prices are realistic, I think the Diezels are waaay overpriced! Do yourself a favor and check out a Koch!;)

Mr Stoner,

your friendly gear provider here :)

I would recommend checking some of the Koch amps out - very good tones - not too heavy on the wallet and some really practical features.

The other thing to try (though you'll have to wait until later in the year) are the new amps from Blackstar - 4 former Marshall employees who have setup a new firm. Their products are killer! We have the valve pedal range arriving late this week and everyone in the store was blown away with them. I tried the amps in Frankfurt - they are onto a winner.

Give me a call.

Koch, VHT, Diezel??? Argh! Too many choices! And then there's Trainwreck that are meant to be awesome too. Maybe I'll get a Peavey Bandit!

I get the feeling Blackstar are going to be the next big thing.

The variable power function alone has me interested. No more lugging THD Hotplates around maybe?:D

Strangely enough, I really don't like the Kochs. The cleans are very nice but the distorted tones are, IMHO, quite lacking... Paired with the fact that two out of the four Kochs I've played blew up when I needed it the least (once in the studio with the expensive clock ticking away and once live in front of 600 willing highschool girls - and their boyfriends), really makes me less than enthusiastic about their product.

Cheers

Get the Einstein, it´s a very good amp.

Sounds really amazing and is built like a tank. On top of that Peter Diezel is a cool guy. He´s sometimes hanging out on his Forum (www.rig-talk.om).

Btw: it´s easy possible to make the soundmodes footswitchable. Peter has given a lot of tips on that.

I´m happy with my Herbert, it just rocks.
