I had 3 2nd hand rays, 1 sub, 1 sterling and 2 new stingrays. All the 2nd hand ones came with dull tuners. The 2 new rays had pretty dull tuners after 1 or 2 years. All the other hardware is allways fine. So i think the tuners have a thinner layer of chrome or a different chrome/nickel finish, wich is less durable.

How are the USA ones not EBMM products?
were they produced by another company?

USA SUBs are true EBMM.

I think the OP refers to a SBMM [import]
SUB due to words strongly implying that
the SUB in the OP is brand new.

This phrase:

"I know that most instruments need an
initial set up but I've never had one this
bad OUT OF THE BOX."
