Question Dings: Do you care when buying uses?

Do you guys care if I guitar has dings when you buy it used? What is the imaginary line where you saw wow, that ding is to big I am not buying that?

If the guitar sounds good and plays good I really don't care if there are dings in it , I know I'm going to be putting more in anyway. And sharpies do wonders on black guitars I know I have used them to cover up a few. But I know there are people who like their guitars to look new all the time. I just bought a guitar and it had a few battle scars but the guitar sounds absolutely amazing and I can totally over look it.

Honestly if its blatantly obvious that the ding or damage is a result of negligence then who knows the abuse its been through. I wouldnt go for it. But if its aged road wear and gig battle scars then I honestly don't care at all. The only thing I care about is how it sounds and how it feels. Exactly in that order. My. 02 but many will be inclined to disagree with me.

There's no line per se ... it depends on the price. Wear should be priced accordingly.

I have a JP6 that has a lot of battle scars - if I sell it then I will price it accordingly, because after all I bought it like that.

Lots of fret wear is a big turn off for me. In which case the cost of a refret should be reflected in the price, but normally isnt.

dings were no too important (exept for the neck)
but fretware and hardware would be good no rust ,no refret to do
and the price would be adjust

I like guitars to look nice. That being said, like the others it depends on where and price. Personally I'd rather pay more and get an instrument that is in better shape.

the truth is you didn't bought it like that but in a much poorer condition, and you made it a wonderful player guitar

looks like this won't happen. It is over priced. Seller didn't have the right idea of what the market is like and now is kind of stuck. He claims he rather keep in than go down in price. It is all good he makes my choice easier if he won't budge

Dings and scratches are higly important, prefer good to great condition all the way around, If I am going to accept a ding price has to be low, just has to be a good deal if it is damaged. I prefer to nick my own stuff instead of buying it that way!!

I am sure all of us have guitars that look worse for wear than the one BV was looking at, especially old faithful #1 and it's back ups. I have 3 guitars that have pin up girl and guitar related decals on the face, which I find the best quick fix that looks great for those bad dings. When buying used any seller is going to have to face reality that if the guitar is a few years old he is going to take a major hit for that misfortune. I see a lot of guitars like that which are only a few months old with sellers wanting to take off $200 or a bit more, when the loss of the warranty alone should take off $250. We would all love our gear to stay as new looking as possible, but the truth is if you are going to play hard things are bound to happen. There is also the fact that if you treat your gear carefully and take care of it, there is no reason it can't stay in great condition for years.Some guys seem hell bent on treating there gear like sh!t, as they are of this mind frame it makes them a real player. I do not follow the logic behind this nonsense, nor come from that camp. If I am buying used I will wait until I come across the cleanest model I am looking for that I can find, and with patience most will be befuddled at just what gems are out there especially now for a steal.Now this way of thinking mainly pertains more towards higher end gear. There are thousands of used and beat up great, solid, work horse guitars that can be had for $500 and under out there. One bit of advice for everyone that buys say a guitar like a new BFR JP or something similar. If you are going to mod the guitar and switch out the pups and other mods along those lines, store the original parts away nice and neatly. For the life of me I will never understand guys who spend that kind of scratch on a pro level instrument and sell off the original parts for under $200, and are then befuddled why they get their brains knocked in if they decide to sell it after a few months.More than dings or dents, non original parts are the biggest deal breaker.

I've always loved the look of a beat up, well used guitar - I've worked in a LP real hard for years and dig how it looks (even proud of it!). For some reason though - the EBMM brand prefers a clean look (i.e I wouldn't want to beat it up or get it dinged). Same goes for keeping my Gretsch looking clean. For me I guess i depends on the axe - the EBMM brand should be a clean as possible IMHO ('clean' = looks new or close to).
