What good is an amp that doesnt make things fall off shelves? Thats my home test to see if it will cope with the various drummers I play with!
That happened to me at the Pier in Cairns, North Qld. We had strict instructions not to play loud during the week, first night we played the shop next door rattled so much that many of the souvenirs fell off the shelves and broke. I couldn't wait to get home

The only time this argument even means anything is when you have a 100% analog signal. All guitars, effects, amps, etc have to be analog. If you slap a digital delay into the mix, you've killed the "analog/tubes are better" argument completely by introducing a digital device which will convert the signal from analog to digital, then back from digital to analog.

I challenge you to name an artist who doesn't use a digital device somewhere in the studio or live.

Derek Trucks - guitar to amp, thats it.

Cool. I love it when guys use only what's neccessary. Less really is more sometimes.

Yip More is less i guess hahaha....my ballz go through this into my 61 Fender Bandmaster and i get no fatigue....Digital amps DO fatigue MY ears after about a half hour ....i like my Truebypass analog/digital pedals ....to each his own!

Are the speakers broken in on both amps (assuming you're not using the same cab, in which case nevermind)? New speakers fatigue my ears really bad, but generally once they break in the ice picks go away.

I've always hated my POD through a regular amp. Very harsh, but through a PA system or similar (I run my POD through an AER combo at the moment!!) the sound was much more convincing.

But I think speaker break in has an affect. When I worked in a music shop, we always kept "display models" and didn't sell them. We had pretty much the full range of Peavey Transtube amps and even they all sounded 100% better when they had been played in.

I also remember a 5150 II that we special ordered for a customer- it was awful, yet the Demo model at the Peavey (Europe) HQ at Corby that I tried a couple of times sounded awsome- no doubt the 4x12 there had clocked up a few hours.

Generally though my experience with 4x12s have never been positive. Mainly, I think because I've never been able to run them loud enough. I think there should be laws banning 4x12s from being used anywhere other than stadiums. Every singer and sound engineer would be so much happier in their work :D
