Almost never.

BUT... I am so self absorbed with my bass lines and making sure I am tight with the drummer, I doubt if I would know if my singer started singing in Spanish or Mandarin Chinese.:D

The only time me or any of the other band members bother changing or deleting songs is during a few outdoor gigs we do every year where there are lots of little kids.

The only change to our setlist is that we pull a couple of Green Day songs. Usually when the singer swears in American Idiot when there are kids present, we completely stop and I jokingly give the singer $hit for "almost swearing" then we start up where we left off. The crowd loves it, laughs their asses off and it sounds great as we just come in on the main verse riff.

just myhumble bitter opinionMHBO

...the songs you play? I mean, their lyrical content - the message and/or the story they tell.

I've got a guitarist who likes to act as our "morality-meter" and pushes back on songs that he finds issue with, even when they fit perfectly with our core (family-fun, rock-n-roll dance).

Other songs, he'll ask if we can change a line or two. We're all middle-aged (42 through 54) and we've all got kids (5 through 20). Three of us are getting tired of dealing with it and simply decided we'll play those "other songs" without him - he claims he'll be fine going off-stage for a few songs.

Time will tell if this arrangement will work - I'm unsure at this point, but not doing this nearly broke us up.

Got me thinking about what others think about it, so I'm asking what you think about it...

imhbo he ought to stop feeling sorry for himself ...:he can take it from me, that feeling sorry for oneself goes nowhere gooda pro will rise above the surfacedebris, I heard a guy do everyone's favourite "Margaritaville " recently for a room full of rehab patients , as though his heart and soul were on the line ... poor guy was stuck with a strat:eek: but certainly not feeling sorry for himself even though a close guitarist friend(middle aged dude) of hisis down like me with a stroke and can't play a single note let alone a lick:(

CHeer UP eh?, :) Music is about the soul:cool: imhbo he ought to loosen up a weenie bit andlet it all hang out!:Dplaying is a gift and a privilege:)the audience deserves a chance to enjoy what's played so playing ought to be done with feeling:cool:/PL:)

Good Luck:)

Sorry for another reply I posted which rather admonished your guitar player for feeling sorry for hijself -- I misread your original post as "Mortality Meter - personally, I've heard some local headbanger stuff which hides under the "Rock" label and explains in detail , stuff which is best left to get lost under a big wattery flushing sound:eek:some stuff just doesn't merit being referred to as music, nor being presented as such .. in my neighbourhood we stoop and scoop when doggie has to do his doo, but we prefer not to sing praises about it:D

The guy just may be an avid reader and pays attention to what he is hearing or reading.

Lots of songs do send messages I don't want my kids doing.

What one plays is a personal choice that you have to make for yourself. Does anyone else need agree with you? NO. If you decide does it matter? NO.

He is the guy you should ask. Then all of you should decide.

imho
