It's really an all purpose guitar at this point as it is my only one. The push-pull pot is just to give me some extra sounds if I desire and want to hear something other than a full on humbucker. I mainly use the bridge hum, neck hum, neck & bridge together and the neck split, but the original single coil is great too for a tele like tone. I use them all at one point or another. Also inspires me to play different things sometimes.

And of course I dont have to touch the tone pot at all to just leave it as the original wiring. I love a humbucker in the neck position but I also really love a single in the neck, so that and being that this is my only guitar inspired me to put in that "master" push-pull pot to have the best of both worlds. It's convincing enough for me :).

Very cool! The Morse really does look like a Jack-Of-All-Trades. When you say that this guitar is your "only one" do you mean literally or the only one that you're playing now.

Would love a ASS/Tele like the one Paisley has, except for a pickguard and a standard Tele single coil.

Probably pass on the paisley finish, too.

Sorta, but I like the shape and contours of the Silhouette.. I also like the pickguard, hardtail, and the big thing for me is the 1 5/8 nut.

I hear ya. We all have our favorite Balls. I just noticed that you're in Rochester. Is Dinosaur's still around?

If I could have a signature EBMM, it would be a Silo with a little slimmer of a neck, hotter pickups, and a flat board like a Petrucci.

Have you consider the Luke (or Luke III)? The neck is slimmer than the silo and fretboard radius at 12" is flatter than the silo although not as flat as the JP.

I've got a '95 Silo. HSH with a Floyd. I was thinking a new, more powerful single but someone suggested just switching to an HH setup. At first I wasn't interested, but now I'm considering it.

I saw an EB diagram of that, but can't seem to locate it now. Anybody got a link...?

I know this is a purely hypothetical thread but I'm curious to see others preferences. For me, the one thing that I wish I could have is another volume knob for the neck pickup in my JPXI. One of my guitars is set so that I can flick to the neck pickup for cleans (with the volume set low) and then flick back on the toggle when I want the gain back. It's freedom away from the pedalboard.
When I saw the thread with the AL having two MM90s and individual volume controls, it got my mind thinking.

I'm not sure where to find one, but I know there are stacked volume pots. Inner for one pickup volume, outer for the other. I'm thinking about my Valentine radar detector. It has one.

That sounds like a great idea but I wonder if it would be easy to manipulate one without accidentally turning the other. I work my bridge volume knob a lot and would like to do a neck pickup preset volume. Thanks for the heads up! I'll start looking.

I love modifications, but I totally get why some don't. They are personal things, subtle touches here and there.

I should have a couple of threads in the coming week with two of my recent projects that I finally have completed....... for now.

Things I still haven't gotten round to doing include a Graph Tech Ghost/Hex retrofit or maybe a TonePort/POD Studio/Variax retro fit (for Adrian Belew wanabee moments), hardware stripped and plated Ruthenium, or maybe a pink paisley respray!

Hey acwild, yea the Y2D is literally my only guitar right now. Sold my Silo Special and 20th Silo to get something else...but that didnt work out as I planned. I'm on a hunt to get something else now with a trem...too many choices though haha.

Perhaps my signature on the headstock instead of JP's? :p
Seriously though, it'd be cool to see a JP with a maple fingerboard, that's about the extent of my dream mods.
... Maybe a special anniversary JP with the original Ibanez Picasso graphic!

Ok, you've piqued my interest on Ruthenium. What the heck is that and why would you use it?

I've been selling off a lot of my gear in the last year just so that I can focus on making music instead of constantly swapping gear. It was hard to think of down-sizing to one guitar but I think I can do it now. There's no need to sell my gear but a lot of stuff is just sitting around unused. I hope you didn't have to go down to one due to any unfortunate circumstances.

Maple would be really cool! On that topic, I'd be interested in having a JPXI with the original JP neck. I love the feel of unfinished wood.

I wouldn't mind a rosewood neck on just about everything.

I had an acoustic guitar with a rosewood neck and loved the feel of it. Just curious, what it is that you like about rosewood? Tone, feel?

Thanks for the link! That actually looks pretty cool to me.

The removal of the tone pot from the ASS line!

Yep, tone pots with humbuckers are like male nipples. Jmho.

I think a humbucker vs single would give you a less focused sound. Is that a consideration that would apply to you?

I originally got the guitar as a "do it all" ax for the 45 minute showcase gigs my band was doing. Bring one guitar instead of Strat/LP. It worked pretty well...but I found that the drop off in sound between 1/5 position and 2/3/4 position was too much. The 1 and 5 positions are so powerful.

I've been thinking of a hotter replacement for the single...but now like the idea of bypassing it, altogether, and having a HH setup, like with my LP. Three position switch. Blues/rock/metal.

Chunkier wider neck like a good SG standard :) Another idea is locking tuners rather than the locking nut. As long as you don't wrap your strings around the post, it should stay in tune.
