Go for it. If you take it to a luthier, he should know how to do it.

I did it myself to a setneck I have. The original profile was round and beefy and I wanted more Silo-like. If you want to copy the Sil exactly, Stewmac has a cool tip to copy the profile. I did mine by feel. I took a rasp and filed the neck till my hand started to feel comfortable. I sanded smooth and oiled. It's now oiled mahogany and feels great.

I've got two EBMM's an Albert Lee and a Silo Special. The Silo's neck is perfect for me. I have a permanently injured ring finger (caught my ring on a bolt and almost ripped it off) and have small hands to begin with. Its amazing how much faster I can play and how much more I can do on the Silo than on any other guitar including the AL. But I love the sound of the Albert. Would it be possible to somehow have a reputable luthier shave the neck of the AL to the neck specs of the Silo Special? I know some of you are cringing but would appreciate your input. Thanks!

now you got me thinking I shouldnt consider a AL... the silo neck is perfect for me and I might have the same problem your talking about....ever since I've played my silo I dont want to touch anything else...wish I could find a AL in Cleveland to try....

Go for it mate. But fine someone who has done a ton of of time on necks or guitar building, and look at their work. You don't want to end up with 2 guitars that are hard to play!

Don't let me discourage you from the AL. It is also a great playing guitar with a great neck feel that makes a Strat or Tele feel like an old Kay. Its just that my hand is in such a state that I need all the help I can get. Thanks for the help guys!

I tried an AL out a few months ago and the neck felt wonderful... personally i couldnt imagine changing it but hey whatever floats your boat. My only caution would be to find the best luthier you can to do this for you. Do NOT skimp and go to the cheap guys... or overpriced guys that do mediocre work. Plus this mod IS irreversible so consider all aspects of it before doing it.

Well ... along those lines I'm ECSTACTIC to say that I just got my Morse neck back from Tommy in Delaware who re-carved it for me. Feels un-freakin-believable! So clearly I'm in the "do it" camp.
